Chapter 22 by SnarkShark

Listing the Powers

Superpowers

They were interrupted by the waiter's return. The man took one look at the bloodied napkins and almost dropped his plates. It took a while before Jake could convince him there was no major injury and no chance of a lawsuit. Finally they were left alone with their food and could talk again.

"Essentially, there's two sides to it. Physical and mental. Physically, you have more control over your body - like that healing - and also you can alter other people's. Mentally, you can... well, it's not mind reading, but it's close. And you can alter their thoughts. Mostly, it's easier to say what they want to hear, though."

Connor tried to absorb this all.

"And this is... well, the weirdness I mentioned..."

"Yeah, no-one has conscious control of their powers when they first appear. It'd be pretty bad if you'd done something spectacular before you got briefed." Jake leaned over the table emphasizing his following words with stabs of his fork. "Son, this stays a secret! If I seem a bit vague about what an Incubus is... it's because we don't know. We've tried to keep ourselves hidden since witch hunts were a thing, you get me?"

Connor just nodded dumbfounded.

"Now, the real kicker is what fuels your powers. And that's why I don't even need to ask what kind of incidents you've been having. It's sex, Connor. Sex is the fuel. You'll need it. More if you use your powers a lot, less if you don't. It's a second food."

Jake took a long drink of coffee and continued;

"Chi, prana, Odic ****... I've investigated quite a few quacks and gurus in my time trying to get answers. A few mortals could even manipulate the same powers themselves. None really understood how in anything you'd call scientific theory. But you'll need sex - orgasms are best. Oh, and if you're active, you'll need to feed on more than one lady. Otherwise they get somewhat..." Jake paused, looking for the right word. "Overwhelmed and exhausted."

"That's why you left Mom, isn't it?"

Jake shrugged.

"In part, that's true. Also, I wanted her to be able to provide a more stable home for you to grow up in. Now, I have a few presents for you." With that, Jake produced a small case from inside his bag.
