Chapter 34 by reaper13 reaper13

How much further is the big city?

Within reach

You and Keyla sit next to each other as you drive down the path and leave the mountains behind you. All the while, Keyla talked about what it means to be a vampire, which ability’s the Winter Lotus bestows, and so on.
“But it’s important to know that all of these things we get to do, we can only do them at night. See, the Winter Lotus is a night goddess, so at day she is unresponsive to our prayers.” Keyla explains to you while playing with her blonde hairs.
You turn to her and say “So that’s why you didn’t use any special ability’s against those three bandits.”

You drive through the night, and finally reach the outskirts of Gerlangen. The big city had grown such a large population that people had been **** to build their houses outside the city walls.
“But since also have a connection to the Burning Rose, maybe you could be the only fire wielding vampire?” Keyla suggests.
She made you giggle with that assumption.
“Sorry, but the Burning Rose doesn’t do actual fire. Ability’s granted by her are more focused on purification and daemon slaying.”
Keyla seemed disappointed with your answer. It is better that then have her make the wrong assumptions during a critical moment.
As you get closer, you get a taste of what the people here live like. If you had still been a human, it would have been difficult for you to see in the darkness of the night. But as a vampiress, you are able to see clear.
There are a couple of drunks, people who left the pub too late and never made it home, sleeping by the side of the road.
At times some shady looking men were talking to each other, partly hidden in the shadow of a nearby house.
You even see a baker working in his bakery. The heat from the oven must have been too much for him, so he opened a window which you managed to spy through.

Keyla pokes your side and says. “I don’t think we’ll make it past the gates. Not tonight anyways.”
“Why not?” You ask.
Keyla points at the eastern horizon and see a purple haze rising from beyond.
“Sun is coming up.” Keyla cautions. “We maybe have half an hour or so until the sunrays become harmful to us.”
When you were younger, you loved watching the sun come up. Back in those days, you never thought you would ever curse it like you do today.
Keyla puts a hand on your shoulder and gets you to look at her. “We need to find shelter.”
“Right, but how do we do that?” You ask.
“Rather simple, really.” Keyla says. “We find a human, preferably one who is alone, and use the eyes of the goddess to get him or her to become our thrall.”
“I see.” You reply.
You are not very keen on forcing someone to let you stay at their place, though with the sun’s impending arrival, it seems you don’t have the luxury of spending tour time and ask them politely.

You tell Keyla you want to be the one finding a thrall. She agrees, but warns you that no matter what you do, you should not let anyone touch your skin.

Who do you hypnotize into being your servant?
