Chapter 12

His next cunning plan?
Going deeper underground.
Lynn turns to you, "We should move on, there will be another adventuring party along soon. It's likely that the warriors you defeated will be back soon and won't be caught by surprise. You could have all the skeletons in the world under your control but if someone like Alex is with them then we're finished before we've begun."
"Agreed, but first we must seal the crypt to stop the living disturbing the peace of the dead. I think we can do it by causing a cave in and then we find this amulet, if I keep it then the crypt can never be reset and it will be sealed off forever" you answer.
"You couldn't collapse the tunnels here, the foundations for the church above are too well built and strong. You'd need to collapse the older tunnels in the lower levels which should destroy the ones above them" Lynn replies thoughtfully.
"Hmmmm, it's a shaky plan but will have to do for now" you concede. You might come back and finish the job when you're stronger but for now it's the best you can realistically manage without the proper resources. You exit the room with Lynn, Jack the dog and your skeletons following. You command Jack to lead you deeper in the crypt hoping to find somewhere to collapse the tunnel.
Lynn cast a Light spell to allow you all to see as you explore the tunnels, the few undead you meet join your growing cohort of troops at your command. You pass many crypts, most have been ransacked with defeated skeletons lying in pieces, every urn is smashed, every barrell searched, every sarcophagus opened. You ask Lynn why heroes would do this but she only shrugs in reply.
There are a couple of incidents when you meet rats or spiders but they are swiftly defeated and add valuable EXP. You discover that as their master anytime your allies gain EXP you gain the same amount. Lynn and Jack both raise to level 2 as you explore. Jack is especially efficient at hunting rats. At one point Lynn is bitten by a spider and poisoned. She seems surprised yet appreciative when you pass her one of healing potions you had taken from the warriors you had defeated earlier.
You soon find what you think is a suitable place to collapse the tunnel and Lynn casts her fireball spell to burn away the support beams, the tunnel collapses trapping you all within the tomb. You search the adjacent tunnels and collapse any you think might lead to the surface.
Having sealed you all underground Lynn enquires sardonically how you will get out of the crypt after the amulet is found, you reassure her that all dungeons have a quick back exit to be found after the main objective is completed. Privately you think to yourself that if there is no exit then you can just return to spending the rest of eternity resting.
You continue following the path downwards feeling secure in the progress you have made so far until you eventually leave the tunnel and enter a large cavern. Suddenly the skeletons ahead of you turn back and run past you back the way you've just came, arrows come from the darkness ahead and start to strike them, a couple fall to the ground defeated. Lynn is struck a couple of times and her HP drops, PvP isn't supposed to happen in this area.
Players are not supposed to be able to hurt each other, and then you realise that as she is wearing the collar you gave her then she is at your command and therefore the game considers her not to be a hero but a monster.
"A cleric has cast turn undead" hisses Lynn
"Retreat back to the tunnel!" you reply. The turn undead ablity doesn't affect you as since you lost your weakness to it. Jack, Lynn and you flee to the tunnel as arrows strike the ground around your group as you run. The arrows are less accurate as you re-enter the tunnels and the shadows confuse the shapes the archers are aiming at.
"For fucks sake Annie, you were supposed to wait until they were further in, now we're going to have to hunt all these fuckers down" complains a male voice.
"Don't worry, they'll just stand about waiting for us once they get out of range of me while the spell is in effect" comes the reply from a female voice.
"That might be but you didn't stick to the plan, if you can't do such a simple task what good are you? We can always get another cleric" says a third, female, voice.
"Fuck it, I got this" says a fourth, female, voice and you hear explosions as badly aimed fireballs strike the rock around the entrance to the tunnel. The sound is deafening as it reverberates down the tunnels but once the sound stops then thanks to the echoes in the tunnels you can still hear the heroes talk as you continue to retreat further inside.
"Yeezus, don't be such a retard" complains the first voice "Annie, stay here while we hunt these bastards down. I don't want to spend all afternoon chasing them down."
"Ok, I'll be good." Replies the second voice, presumably Annie's.
"I don't care if you're good, just be competent" the third voice snaps.
"Uh, guys, I'm out of mana" the fourth voice says sheepishly.
"Oh my god!" Scream the first and third voices in unison.
"Use a fucking potion you fucking asshole retard" the first voice screams. There's a pause, the fourth voice doesn't reply. "You haven't got any have you, an idiot mage who's too stupid to carry mana regeneration potions. You two are getting reduced loot for wasting my time. Come on, lets get these bastards."
Lynn cancels her Light spell leaving you all in darkness as you continue along the tunnel. It would be good to get behind this latest party of warriors to attack them with an element of surprise but they'd be on high alert on the look out for your skeletons. It seems that Lynn can hurt and be hurt by them, you're not sure about Jack. There's at least four heroes, two are probably low level and the other two could be any level of ability. You furiously think for an angle that would swing this encounter in your favour. You need a plan, a plan so cunning it could be have been plotted by a Fox who's just been made Professor of Cunning at the College of Cunning.
A cunning plan is urgently needed!

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
