Nest Visit 2
The world collapsed down to that single, numb point against my skin.
Vanessa’s fingertip hovered directly over the upper rim of the cylinder. The ice-cold surgical steel conducted the contact straight inward without compromise; the pressure transferred through the ring, driving deep into the bruised cords of my pubic bone. Beneath the chinos, the slender padlock lay clamped flat against my thigh, as if waiting to strike against the bone with a sharp metallic crack at the slightest movement.
My blood ran cold. I could neither draw breath nor lower my eyes. Every fiber of my body shrieked in sheer panic. A single grab, one testing tug through the cloth—and my respectable world, my medical degree, my name, everything would crumble to ash right before my stepmother’s eyes.
"That… that's…," I croaked, but my vocal cords failed entirely.
A dry, bright laugh sliced through the lethal paralysis.
"Mom, take your hands off him," Loona’s voice rang out from the armchair—so casual, almost irritated, as though addressing a tedious triviality.
Vanessa drew back minutely, yet let her finger rest upon the hard contour for a heartbeat longer before slowly withdrawing her hand. Her gaze darted between my bloodless face and her daughter, visibly perplexed.
"But Loona, it's rock-hard," Vanessa said, a note of genuine dismay vibrating in her tone, edged with the sharpness of a woman who detests being kept in the dark. "It feels like solid iron. Did you break something down there, John? Or is that a splint?"
Loona gave a demonstrative shake of her head, rolled her eyes in amusement, and rose from the armchair with fluid grace. Every step she took across the floorboards radiated total, absolute control.
"Not broken, Mom. Pinched," Loona said, stepping up behind the sofa. She rested both hands on my shoulders from behind. Her manicured nails dug deep into my flesh through the white Oxford shirt, so precisely and ruthlessly that the air was instantly knocked out of my lungs. "He completely overdid it deadlifting at the university gym three days ago. A minor inguinal tear—nothing dramatic, but the physicians at the campus clinic fitted him with a rigid pelvic truss and compression sleeve so he doesn't damage the tissue any further."
She leaned forward slightly, her breath brushing hot against my ear while her fingers tightened their grip.
"Naturally, he's mortified by it," she continued with honeyed malice. "The model medical student who can't even manage his own body. And because those medical compression bands flatten the groin entirely and chafe at the edges, I told him to wear the lace panties over it. The fine silk stops the harness from rubbing raw. But instead of just being honest, he prefers playing the mysterious fashion pioneer."
Vanessa blinked twice. The suspicion in her eyes flickered briefly, searching for fractures in the narrative—only to shatter completely against the flawless, casual delivery with which her daughter served the lie.
A deep, incredulous exhale broke from her chest, followed by a relieved chuckle.
"A pelvic truss?" she repeated, shaking her head. The tension melted from her features, giving way to that familiar, maternal condescension. "For heaven's sake, John! And you make such a drama over that? For a second, God only knows what I thought!"
Leaning back into the cushions, she reached for her champagne glass and shook her head in amusement.
"So you're running around with an orthopedic brace keeping you locked in tight, wearing women's panties over it so the metal doesn't chafe? You truly are the biggest klutz in this family. Why didn't you just say something?"
"I… I didn't want to make a fuss," I whispered through a raw throat, keeping my gaze glued to the coffee table.
"Typical man," Vanessa scoffed, sipping from her glass, regarding me with a pitying smile. "Rather suffer in silence and tense up on the sofa in lace panties than admit to an injury at the gym. But it still hurts quite a bit, doesn't it? You're sitting there like a pillar of salt."
Behind me, Loona’s hands slid slowly down from my shoulders.
Her fingers trailed along my chest, skimmed my ribs, and slipped casually beneath the waistband of my chinos. Right before the eyes of her oblivious mother, shielded only by the edge of the low table, Loona’s hand closed ruthlessly around the exposed shaft of the cylinder.
Her nails bore down on the upper ring, straight into the sensitive tendon, tilting the solid metal housing forward by a centimeter.
Pain detonated in my pelvis like liquid fire. My teeth clamped into my lower lip so violently that I tasted the warm, metallic tang of blood.
"Oh yes, Mom," Loona breathed, her smile as innocent as an angel's, while beneath the waistband her hand readjusted with millimeter precision, driving the cylinder even deeper into my pubic bone. "It still hurts him very much. He needs a great deal of rest right now. And above all, someone to watch very closely so he doesn't take that brace off a single second too soon."
Vanessa did not pull her hand entirely away. Her fingertips still rested barely above the black lace trim, but the nature of the touch had shifted. There was no innocent prodding left—only a cold, vigilant calculation.
Her gaze drifted slowly upward from my groin, passing over my chalk-white face, the beads of sweat gathering at my temples, and finally locked onto Loona’s hand, which remained firmly anchored beneath my waistband behind my back.
Something sparked in Vanessa’s eyes that turned the blood in my veins to ice. It wasn't shock. It was the sharp, crystalline realization of a woman who knew her own body and the mechanics of human movement inside and out. She had taught yoga for years; she understood precisely how muscles responded to a tear, where a clinical brace was anchored, and the exact respiratory pattern of a person enduring pain.
And above all, she knew: a medical bandage never felt like a solid, cylindrical bar of dense metal directly over the pubic bone.
A faint, almost imperceptible smile played at the corners of her mouth. Withdrawing her hand, she leaned back into the soft sofa cushions and crossed her legs. The initial rush had completely dissolved from her features, replaced by a deep, almost regal composure.
"A pelvic truss, is it," Vanessa said quietly.
Her voice was dangerously smooth, carrying that warm, melodic cadence she reserved for catching someone in a lie when she intended to let them twist on the hook.
"And it sits dead center over the bone, with no lateral straps at all? Made of pure iron?" She looked directly at me, arching an eyebrow as she took a sip from her glass. "Fascinating what they prescribe to you young medics these days."
Panic rose like caustic acid in my throat. I was caught. She knew. She had to know. My entire life—my standing, my studies, the respect of my family—teetered on the lip of a sheer drop. My hands shook so violently that I had to drive them down into the upholstery with all my strength to arrest the trembling. I could already see myself hauled before my father: disowned, exposed for what I was, a crippled, sealed plaything beneath the hands of his stepdaughter.
Yet behind me, Loona did not yield an inch.
No hesitation. No freezing. Beneath my waistband, her fingers did not slacken their grip on the steel shaft; on the contrary, she applied a calm, measured downward force that ground the cylinder agonizingly against my pubic bone once more.
"Modern models are far more compact, Mom," Loona replied with a nonchalance that bordered on madness. Her voice sounded entirely untouched, almost bored. "They immobilize the tendons right at the insertion point. He simply has to wear it until the clinical presentation clears up. Even if he carries on like a toddler about it."
Between mother and daughter, a silent space opened where unspoken truths hung like dense smoke.
Vanessa looked at her daughter. And in that breath, one could see the unconditional, almost blind adoration she held for Loona. In Vanessa's eyes, Loona was perfection incarnate: beautiful, brilliant, willful—an image of herself, only younger and far more ruthless. There was nothing in this world Loona could do that her mother would genuinely hold against her. When Loona wanted something, she took it; when Loona breached a boundary, Vanessa saw only further proof of her daughter's strength.
Vanessa’s eyes drifted back down to me. She no longer regarded me as a patient or an awkward stepson. She looked upon me as an exotic piece of furniture her daughter had brought into the apartment—a secret that needed no airing, provided it offered sufficient amusement.
"Naturally," Vanessa purred, her eyes now gleaming with unvarnished social arrogance. She was visibly relishing holding the cards. "If Loona says you require this… *support*, then I'm sure it's entirely appropriate."
Leaning forward slightly, she locked her gaze onto my pale features.
"Though if the tissue is that sensitive, John, you should focus on one thing above all: holding still. No fidgeting. You will listen very carefully to what your sister tells you. After all, she only has your best interests at heart."
A shudder ran down my spine, scalding and freezing all at once.
There was no longing for an escape in that moment, no wish for rescue—because deep down, I did not want to be saved. I had long since surrendered, hooked on Loona’s merciless hand, the searing shame, and the dark high of dissolving beneath her authority.
What truly turned my blood to ice was the naked terror of exposure. Of my father. The thought of Vanessa picking up the phone, shattering the pristine image of the accomplished medical student, exposing me to him for what I was—a degraded plaything locked in women's lingerie—tightened around my throat like a noose.
Yet that sentence never fell.
Vanessa wasn't going to turn me in. She wouldn't breathe a single syllable to my father. She had seen through Loona’s absurd story immediately, yet rather than tearing away the veil, she stepped right past it—captivated by the absolute dominance her daughter wielded over me, ready to play along as an accomplice. The bourgeois facade held, and simultaneously, the net drew tighter still.
Behind me, Loona leaned in slowly until her lips nearly brushed my temple. Her nails pressed a fraction deeper into my waistband.
"Do you see, John?" she breathed into my ear, her eyes remaining fixed on Vanessa. "Mom understands. You are in the very best of hands here. Now finish your coffee, stand up very carefully, and show Vanessa just how compliant a patient can be when given proper boundaries."
