Chapter 41

Does a ship await you, or does something foul bar your way?
Something blocks your way to the ship
The lake stretching out before you to the distant, hazy mountains is as smooth and dark as a polished mirror of black. The tumultuous heavens are reflected in complete detail, a picture so vivid that you almost do not see the tarry black ship moored a few hundred yards down the shore. Its sails are drawn down, but you see a single red lantern bobbing above its decks, suggesting someone or something crews this vessel.
You imagine the creaking of its ancient timbers beneath your feet. You recall spiced air, heat, red light, sweat coating your body and soft, hot flesh beneath you and all around you. The sense memory is so vivd that you sway on your feet and have to bring a hand up to your face to realize it is not real. Only a dream or a strange memory.
However disconcerting that vision might be, it does not foretell your painful ****. You set off for the ship. If you can get across the lake, away from this wasteland, maybe you can find your way back to your former life.
A mound of broken rocks, like paving stones, forms a small obstacle between you and this mysterious ship. You start towards it and stop as you hear a soft clicking sound. You hold your breath, sensing the approach of something large.
You want to scream at the creature you behold. It scurries into view, climbing atop the pile of stones like a giant, gray-black spider nearly as big as a horse, only it has a hundred legs and no obvious front or back. It seems to move in any direction it chooses, its overlapping legs finding a sure-footed course over the jumble of stones.
You experience another flash of memories. The legs all around you like a cage. The stiff bristles covering the creature's body are rough against your skin. Venom burns hot through your body and you scream in pleasure and pain as a ridged cock invades your womanhood.
Again, it is only a false memory. It is false, isn't it? You shake the thought from your head and crouch low against a smaller pile of the stones. The creature does not seem to have detected you. Perhaps you could sneak around it and come back to the ship from the other direction. Or you could wait here for the daemonic spider to pass and hope that it does not find where you are hiding.
The spider grasps a stone with two of its legs. No, not a stone. It is holding a skull, now mostly devoid of flesh. A long, pale purple tendril emerges from beneath the spider and seems to lick at the skull, cleaning off any residual nutrients. You shudder at the inhuman efficiency of the action. The spider discards the skull with a clatter and continues on in roughly your direction.
Hide, sneak, or do you dare to confront this monstrosity?
