Chapter 67: The Morning After
Elena woke up in her own bed and for a long moment did not know how she had gotten there.
Sunlight cut across the sheets. Her body ached in places that made no sense at first — a deep, used soreness between her legs, a rawness in her throat, a dull sting in her ass, bruises on her hips in the shape of fingers. She sat up slowly. She was wearing a nightdress she did not remember putting on. Her hair was damp, as if someone had cleaned her up. The last clear image she had was concrete, fluorescent lights, and a circle of basketball jerseys.
She did not remember the drive home.
She did not remember walking through the front door.
She went downstairs barefoot. The house was quiet except for a muffled, rhythmic sound coming from the guest room. Elena stopped in the hallway and listened. It could have been exercise. It could have been something else. She raised her hand and knocked.
The sound stopped immediately.
Edward opened the door a few seconds later, slightly out of breath, wearing only shorts. Sweat stood on his chest. Behind him the guest room looked ordinary — bed made, window open, nothing obviously out of place. If Ana was in there, she was hidden well enough that Elena did not see her.
“What were you doing?” Elena asked.
Edward wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. “Working out. Didn’t want to wake you.” He stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind him before she could look past him again. “You were out cold when I got in last night. Congratulations, by the way. Your team actually won the tournament. I saw it online this morning. Worst team in the bracket, and you took the whole thing.”
The word tournament hit her like a physical blow.
The corridor came back all at once.
Andrew bending her against the wall. Tim lifting her leg. The circle tightening. Mouth, cunt, ass, hands, breasts. Load after load. The way she had stopped counting. The way she had not said no. The janitor’s blurred face after everyone else had left. The taste that had still been in her mouth when her vision finally cleared.
Elena stood in the hallway and felt a slow, incredulous smile pull at her mouth before she could stop it.
She could not believe what she had done.
And she was happy.
“Thanks,” she said, her voice a little rough. “It was… a long day.”
Edward studied her face for a second, then nodded and let the subject drop. He went toward the kitchen. Elena went back upstairs, showered without looking too long at the marks on her hips, and dressed for the university. The soreness between her legs made every step a reminder. She did not mind. A low, dangerous excitement sat under her ribs the entire drive to campus.
People congratulated her in the parking lot. In the corridor. Outside the biology department. Staff she barely knew stopped her to say they had seen the final, that no one had expected that team to last a single round, let alone take the title. Elena smiled, thanked them, and kept walking. None of them knew why the roster had played like their lives depended on it. None of them knew where the team and their coach had gone instead of collecting the trophy.
A message from Elias was waiting on her phone when she reached her office.
Come to my office.
She went.
Elias was standing behind his desk when she entered. He locked the door behind her the way he always did. For a moment he simply looked at her, that familiar dark, knowing expression on his face.
“You did an unbelievable job,” he said. “That team was a joke two weeks ago. Unmotivated. Undisciplined. You turned them into champions.” He paused. “I’m offering you the rest of the athletic program. All of it. Basketball was temporary. Now you can coach every team on this campus that needs someone.”
Elena’s pulse jumped. More teams. More young men. More hours on campus. More reasons not to go home.
Elias watched the thought move across her face and smiled.
“This way,” he said quietly, “you can fuck everyone in sports.”
Elena stared at him.
The air in the office went still.
“How do you know that?”
Elias did not answer the question. He did not mention the cameras he had installed throughout the building — the ones in the hallways, the ones near the sports complex, the ones no one else knew about. He did not mention that he had watched her first private sessions with Andrew, the group rewards in the women’s locker room, the draw-day scene on the open court, or the way the entire roster had vanished from the trophy presentation. He simply held her gaze and let the silence do the work.
Elena did not say anything.
After a moment Elias shrugged, as if the source of his knowledge was irrelevant.
“I don’t mind,” he said.
Then he crossed the space between them, turned her toward the desk, and bent her over it.
Elena did not stop him.
He pulled her skirt up, shoved her underwear aside, and pushed into her in one firm thrust. She was still sore from yesterday. The stretch made her gasp and grip the edge of the desk. Elias fucked her with the same unhurried authority he always used — deep, steady strokes that assumed she would take it because she always did. One hand held her hip. The other slid under her blouse and found her breast.
Elena’s forehead dropped against the wood. The soreness from twelve players and a janitor mixed with the familiar thickness of Elias inside her and turned into something sharp and welcome. She was wet almost immediately. The memory of the corridor — the circle, the loads, the way she had let them have every hole — flashed behind her eyes with every thrust. Elias’s pace stayed controlled. He was not rushing. He was claiming his own piece of the aftermath.
He pulled out only long enough to turn her around, lift her onto the desk, and enter her again facing him. Elena’s legs wrapped around his waist. Her head fell back. Elias fucked her like the conversation about coaching and cameras and the rest of the athletic department had only been the prelude. When he came it was deep and silent, his grip tightening on her thighs as he emptied himself inside her.
He stayed there for a few seconds, then stepped back and fixed his clothes as if nothing unusual had happened.
Elena sat on the edge of the desk, skirt still bunched around her hips, breathing hard. The offer hung in the room with the smell of sex.
Every team on campus.
Every sport.
Elias already knew what she had done, and he did not mind.
Elena pulled her underwear back into place with unsteady hands and stood. Her body ached in the same used way it had when she woke up. The happiness from the morning had not gone anywhere. If anything, it had settled deeper.
She left his office without asking again how he knew.
She already understood that some questions were safer left unanswered.
