Violet Refuses

Chapter 28 by mrdarcydoms mrdarcydoms

Violet pulled her hand back.

She sat up on the bench, thighs still slick, the humid air of the chamber suddenly feeling too close. The House watched her through Vivien’s eyes. Moira remained silent and interested, red mouth slightly curved.

“No,” Violet said.

The word landed heavy in the small stone room.

Vivien’s head tilted. The expression on her face did not change, but the air pressure in the chamber dropped. The candles leaned toward Violet as if pulled by a sudden draft that should not have existed underground.

“No?” the House repeated, using her mother’s voice.

“I didn’t agree to that.” Violet’s voice stayed steady even while her pulse hammered. “You don’t get to put his pain on me like a leash. I didn’t ask for it. I don’t want it.”

A long silence followed. Somewhere above them Ben made another broken sound, quieter now, as if the house itself had muffled him.

The smile that spread across Vivien’s face was slow and deeply unpleasant.

“You think you still get to choose the terms.”

The hidden door behind Vivien slammed shut hard enough to send a crack through the stone frame. The temperature plunged. Goosebumps raced across Violet’s wet skin. Moira’s expression flickered for the first time with something like caution.

The House stepped closer. Vivien’s bare feet left faint dark prints on the floor that steamed in the cold.

“You opened the door the first night you touched yourself thinking about this house,” it said. “You opened it wider every time you let the Pale Man use you. You opened it again when you put your hand on your father’s cock and edged him until he broke. This binding is not a request. It is the consequence of what you already are.”

Violet stood. Her legs felt unsteady but she forced them to hold. Water and suds still clung to her thighs. She did not reach for her clothes.

“Then undo it.”

The House laughed with her mother’s mouth. The sound was layered, wrong, full of old dust and older hunger.

“No.”

Above them, Ben’s voice rose in a sharp, involuntary cry of pain. The timing was deliberate. The House wanted her to hear exactly what her refusal was costing him in real time.

Vivien’s stolen eyes gleamed.

“Every hour you resist, the cage will tighten on its own. Every time you feel even a flicker of arousal under this roof, it will feed whether you finish or not. You can refuse the game, little ghost-to-be. But the rules are already written into the walls. And into him.”

Moira finally spoke, voice low and almost respectful.

“She’s telling the truth. The house doesn’t renegotiate once the binding is set.”

Violet’s hands curled into fists at her sides. Anger and fear and the residual heat of the ritual warred inside her. The House pressed against her mind again, offering the easier path: give in, take pleasure, accept that Ben’s suffering was now part of the cost.

She stared at the thing wearing her mother and did not look away.

“Then I’ll find another way to break it.”

The House’s smile widened until it looked like it might split Vivien’s face.

“Try.”

The candles snuffed out as one, dropping the chamber into complete darkness.

In the black, Ben’s pained breathing drifted down the stairs, steady and trapped.
