What is Rachel's next move?
Taking A Look At The Laundrette
A public place to wash clothing was a novel idea about fifty years ago perhaps, when running such machines would've been costly in terms of both bills and physical space. Nowadays most every house had their own washing machines and some even had dryers, failing that the wind made for an excellent substitute.
As such the laundrette in our neighbourhood seemed so quiet that even just from an outside observation during a short time I saw one single person enter, during times when I considered it most ideal for a person with a job to get their clothes washed and dried.
Coming back the next day after my round of observations, I decided to go for a later time. Late enough that it'd be unreasonable for people to visit after work, but not too late to risk running foul of closing times.
Locking my bike up nearby, I headed inside. Despite the lights from the indoors behind able to illuminate the street, the windows were mostly covered in posters. They were advertising random deals from local shops, so I wasn't sure if the privacy screen was intentional or not.
Taking a look at my surroundings there were three distinct aisles, each having rows of machines on either side, dryers on top of washing machines, tall enough that you wouldn't be able to see the aisle beside you. As for people, it's clear there used to be a place that a person manned, but these days it looked like it was all self service, cleaning products were provided but were pre-loaded into the machines.
No point in staff if there's nothing here to steal, not to mention the price per wash wasn't exactly dipping into the treasury.
There weren't even other customers, or even cameras. The lack of the latter is probably due to the lack of the former, places like these were on their last legs, not enough money to splurge on security. And again, not like there's anything here to steal.
Taking a look towards the door, I bite my lip. No sense in dragging things out.
Kicking my shoes off, I pull my leggings down along with my panties. The socks come off as well, I open a machine then start stuffing them in. I take my phone, wallet and keys out of my hoodie pocket then pull it over my head. It, my tanktop and bra all join my clothes.
I'm standing in the middle of the right aisle completely naked, but I still have the opportunity to back out.
I shake my head, close the machine, then put my money in. The machine only accepts coins, and it takes a couple of attempts before it stops spitting them back out at me. I select the 'Luxury Mixed' and hear the machine click, that was the lock. The timer then lights up, fifteen minutes.
I gulp.
I hadn't anticipated that it'd take that long.
I can only watch as the machine shudders to life and my clothes start getting washed. Slipping my shoes back on, I wonder what exactly to do with the time.
Taking a seat on a conveniently supplied, but as my ass would soon find out, a not particularly comfortable metal bench I open Emma's DMs, smirking as the first thing I see is a selfie of myself, fully nude on the dining room table. With Emma replying with seven or eight sweat emojis.
"Hey babe" I text
"Whats up?" I get a fast reply, then smirk and take a quick selfie, sending it over.
"Not much"
"Holy shit, is that the laundry place?"
"Yep, thought Id wash my clothes ;) ;)" I grin to myself, always amused at Emma's reactions to my antics.
"Omg how long are you gonna be? Their machines are slow right?"
"15 mins" I reply, posting a couple of eyeroll emojis as emphasis
"Ugh"
"Yep"
"Alone?"
"Obvs. Wouldnt be naked otherwise"
"Werent alone with me ;)"
"Shush you" I roll my eyes in real life now "Harlot"
"Slut" I go to start replying, but I see her typing again "So, bored?"
"Waiting 15mins doesnt sound fun :("
"Figured. Anyone outside?"
"Emma wyd?"
"Its dark dont be a pussy"
I take a look out through a space where there's no adverts, it's indeed dark. Who'd be going to the shops this late in the evening? Still, it was places of business around here, not houses where people might be inside but will usually stay in watching TV or doing chores.
With a sigh, I pulled a hairband out of my wallet, did my hair up into a ponytail and clipped my keys onto the hairband. I then got up, which was a relief from that bench anyway, and headed over to the door, opening it slightly to poke my head through.
I could see cars moving on other roads, and some shops still had their lights on, but this street was effectively barren.
"Nobody" I replied "Cmon wyd??"
"Dare you to stand outside"
"Wat?"
"Dare. Stand outside. Five Seconds." Great, she was giving me dares now, at least that wasn't too long. But it did make me wonder what'd happen were I to encourage her behaviour.
