The remains of the day

Your schedule for the rest of the day is pretty clear, making it a rare quiet Friday. You spend the rest of the morning working on some ideas for an upcoming product launch, and have a long lunch with a client. It's almost three before you're back in the office. The sunny morning sky has given way to clouds and rain is threatening.

As you work, the sky outside darkens with cloud as a storm builds, rain starting to pour. You look from your window into the streets two dozen floors below and see umbrellas blooming and people scattering for cover. You watch as lightning strikes a building in the distance, waiting for the boom of thunder.

"Is there a storm?" Meghan's voice asks from your door. You turn to see her standing with one hand on the frame, a worried look on her face. "Sorry to interrupt, Sir. I thought I heard thunder."

"You did. It's already pouring. You're not frightened of thunder are you?"

She shakes her head. "No sir. It's just that this morning it was so nice out that I didn't think to bring a coat. And this dress, it's not meant for getting wet, it'll be ruined. I'd take a cab, but it's not payday until next week and, well, I spent more than I should have." She looks embarrassed.

"Spent it on what?" you ask, and she really looks embarrassed. "On this dress," she answers sheepishly, and you can't help but chuckle.

"That plan didn't work out so well."

"No sir, I bought it because I want to look pretty in here and it looked so lovely when I tried it on, that, I guess I didn't plan very well." She makes a cute little frowning pout with her face that makes you smile.

"I'll give you a ride home Meghan. This time. But next time plan better."

She almost skips with happiness. "Oh thank you so much, Mr. Chandler. You're so kind. Are you sure it's no trouble? You're so kind, thank you Sir."

"That's alright Meghan. Get your things together. I'm leaving in fifteen minutes.
