Echoes in Mithril
The tunnel narrowed as they descended. Old Shinra support beams held the ceiling. Pools of standing water reflected the faint glow of Aerith’s magicked light. The air grew colder and carried the sharp mineral scent of raw mythril.
Boot prints remained clear in the soft dust. Two sets. One lighter, one heavier. Reno and Rude. The Turks had entered ahead of them and had not yet come back out.
Cloud raised a hand. The group halted. Voices carried faintly from a chamber ahead, distorted by the stone. Reno’s drawl. Rude’s silence. They were waiting.
The party moved up in a low crouch. The chamber opened into a wider cavern with a partial bridge of carved rock over a deep crevasse. Reno leaned against a support pillar, electro-mag rod resting on his shoulder. Rude stood a few paces away, arms folded, dark glasses reflecting the dim light.
“Well, look at that,” Reno said. “The whole circus made it through the swamp. Didn’t think the big snake would leave enough of you to follow.”
Barret stepped forward, gun-arm rising. “Move or get moved.”
Reno smiled without warmth. “Orders are to slow you down, not bury you. Yet. But I don’t mind improvising.”
The fight broke out in the narrow space. Reno’s rod crackled with electricity as he closed distance. Rude came in heavy and direct. Cloud met Rude’s fists with the flat of the Buster Sword. Tifa slipped past and engaged Reno, fists and kicks forcing him to give ground. Barret laid down covering fire that forced both Turks to keep moving. Aerith stayed back, shielding and healing as the exchanges grew sharper.
It ended without a decisive kill. A section of the bridge cracked under the strain of the fight. Stone gave way. Reno and Rude leapt back toward the far side as the middle collapsed into the crevasse. The party held the near side. For a moment the two groups faced each other across the gap.
Reno saluted with two fingers. “See you further up the road, heroes.”
Then both Turks disappeared into the opposite tunnel.
Barret cursed under his breath. Cloud checked the remaining structure of the bridge. It was gone. They would have to take the longer lower path through the mine to reach the far exit.
They moved on in silence for a time. The lower tunnels were tighter and wetter. At a wider bend where the ceiling rose, Tifa caught Cloud’s wrist and pulled him a few steps aside while Barret and Aerith continued a short distance ahead to scout.
She did not speak. She simply opened his pants, freed his cock, and stroked it to full hardness with firm, practiced motions. Then she turned, braced her hands on the damp stone wall, and pushed back against him. Cloud shoved her skirt up, pulled her panties aside, and sank into her cunt in one thrust. She was wet and ready. He fucked her in short, deep strokes, one hand covering her mouth to keep the sounds down. The wet slap of their bodies stayed low. Tifa came quickly, body tightening around him. Cloud followed, flooding her with a thick load before pulling out. They fixed their clothes and rejoined the others without comment.
The lower path eventually climbed again. Light appeared ahead, thin and gray. The far exit of the Mythril Mine opened onto a high ridge looking north. The land beyond stretched toward the distant coastline and the shape of Junon on the horizon.
Barret shaded his eyes. “Turks went this way. Sephiroth’s trail does too. We keep moving.”
Cloud nodded. The group stepped out of the mine into open air once more. The path toward Junon lay ahead, and with it the next stretch of the hunt.
