The soft click of the front door as Emma left the apartment sounded like a fracture in an overpressurized dam. Vanessa had retired to her own wing an hour earlier to sleep. The penthouse was enveloped in absolute stillness, broken only by the faint hum of the refrigerator.
Loona strolled barefoot into her bedroom, smartphone in hand, her hair already let down for the night. She looked completely relaxed, almost drowsily content.
Inside me, however, everything was boiling over. The sheer humiliation of being forced to my knees in front of Emma—the girl I had spent months worshipping from afar—burned like acid against my ribs. Whatever fragile pride I had managed to cling to had been utterly crushed in that single moment.
I followed her inside without knocking. My hands were balled into fists, knuckles white.
"Why are you doing this, Loona?" I blurted out. My voice trembled with fury, far louder than I had intended.
Loona stopped. She turned around slowly, set her phone onto the nightstand, and looked at me. No shock, no rush in her features. Just a single raised eyebrow signaling she had registered my outburst the way one might note an annoying insect.
"Close the door, John," she said in a quiet, near-whisper. "Mom is asleep."
I pulled the door shut until the latch caught, stepped closer to her, and felt the pulse thumping against my temples. "Why Emma? Why are you handing me over to that arrogant bitch?! Isn't it enough that you lock me up in here, dictate every bite of food I eat, and keep me chained to your phone like a cheap errand boy? Now I'm supposed to make a fool of myself in front of her at school too?!"
The words tore out of me unfiltered, driven by sheer desperation. For a split second, I believed I had put up a fight. I believed I had drawn a line.
Loona simply stood there. Her gaze held neither anger nor indignation. She observed me with an icy detachment that chilled the boiling blood right out of my veins.
"Are you done?" she asked quietly.
I took an involuntary half-step back, my chest heaving. "Loona, please… this thing with Emma is going too far. She’ll destroy me if she gets leverage over me."
She began walking toward me, her steps measured and deliberate. She stopped so close I could feel the warmth of her breath against my skin. Yet in place of the playful intimacy of the past few days, her eyes held only the unrelenting sharpness of a trainer putting down an animal.
Reaching up, she gripped my chin—not gently, but with an iron hold that drove her fingernails directly into my jaw, forcing my head back.
"You clearly still haven't grasped what our reality looks like, John," she said with surgical calm, never raising her voice by even half a decibel. "You don't get a voice. You don't get terms. And you certainly don't get to draw lines with me."
Her fingers tightened until bone ached beneath the pressure. It was impossible to tear my eyes away from her dark pupils.
"Did you honestly think obedience is something that stops at the front door?" she continued, a mocking, almost pitying curve touching the corners of her mouth. "Playing the dutiful little pet in here when nobody's watching is easy. That's a game. Real surrender begins right where it hurts. Right where your pathetic little pride gets broken to pieces."
She released my chin, dragged her thumb across my cheek—a motion that felt far more like a threat than an act of affection—and slid her hand down my chest. Her fingers hooked hard into the waistband of my sweatpants, yanking the fabric forward before clamping down mercilessly around the resin cage locked between my thighs.
A vicious spike of pain shot through my groin. A sharp gasp broke from my throat, my knees giving way beneath me.
"Emma isn't a coincidence, sweetheart," she purred, the pressure against the hard plastic casing steadily increasing, turning every micro-shift into agony. "Emma is an assignment. She's the pretty girl you spent months drooling over while she wouldn't even look your way. And now? Now she's going to boss you around. Because I allow her to. And because you'll do exactly what I tell you to do."
She leaned in closer until her lips brushed the shell of my ear. "You're going to school tomorrow morning. You're going to fulfill every single request she makes. You'll carry her bags, cover her tabs, and type her assignments. And if you don't, I'll show Emma the exact pictures and videos sitting on my phone. Do you think she'll keep that quiet? Do you think the shredded remnants of your social life will be worth a single cent once the whole grade knows who holds your leash?"
Her breath washed over my skin, but then her grip abruptly eased. Taking half a step back, she crossed her arms and pinned me with an indifferent, almost bored stare.
"Then again, you know what, John? I'm not forcing you to do a single thing."
I blinked in bewilderment, the ache still throbbing hot in my groin. "What…?"
"I'm giving you a way out," she said coolly, the effortless composure in her tone constricting my throat far tighter than any threat ever could. "If you don't want this, we stop. Right now. On the spot. I’ll fetch the key, take this thing off you, and erase every single file from my phone. Mom never hears a word. Emma never hears a word."
She watched me without mercy as the words seeped like poison straight into my thoughts.
"Only that will be the end of it. Completely. No more games. No more care. No touches, no cooking together, no whispered secrets. No private glances in the hallway. I won't look at you, won't acknowledge you, and won't utter another word beyond a sterile 'good morning' between roommates. You'll go right back to being that dull, invisible stepbrother gathering dust in the background. Is that what you want?"
My heart missed a beat entirely.
The flat indifference in her voice hit me far harder than her fist around the cage had. Back to irrelevance? Back to the gray, hollow existence where I didn't even exist to her? The desperate addiction to her attention—even when forged out of pain, humiliation, and subjugation—had carved itself deep into my very marrow. I couldn't survive without it. The thought of her casting me aside felt infinitely worse than any torment Emma could dream up.
I stood frozen, unable to move. The tears burning behind my eyes were no longer driven by anger, but by raw, humiliating clarity.
"Well, John?" she murmured, tilting her head to the side. "Should I go get the key?"
"No…," I choked out, my voice cracking and unsteady.
"No what?"
My head dropped, my entire frame trembling in defeat. "No… please don't. Don't stop, Loona."
"And what about Emma?"
"I… I'll do whatever she wants. I'll do everything you tell me to."
Loona smiled. It was no longer the frozen mask from moments ago, but that familiar, warm glow I craved so pathetically. She closed the distance between us again, lifted my chin, and gently wiped a stray tear from my cheek.
"Good boy," she whispered, pressing a tender, fleeting kiss to my forehead. "See? Deep down, this is exactly what you want. I'll take care of you, John. But only as long as you're entirely mine."
She turned away, slipped smoothly beneath the silk sheets of her bed, and pulled them over her legs.
"Now turn off the light and get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a very long day for you."
I lingered in the dimness of the doorway for several seconds, my hand resting flat over the cold shell locked between my thighs. Then I turned off the light, drew the door shut behind me, and walked back to my room in a daze. She hadn't merely cornered me with leverage—she had forced me to admit that I had walked into my own cage entirely of my own free will.
