A brash hero

Chapter 2 by Buttoncrasher Buttoncrasher

A groan bubbles up from the human's lips, her head ached, feeling like it had lost a fight with a sturdy brick wall. Lifting a hand to try rub their throbbing skull only to try blinking and then find themselves unable to do that either. "Crap... Where am I? Am I dead? Feels pretty- oh hey, I can talk...? Don't feel my lips moving.. Or even feel my lips..." After sitting there stewing with nothing but her own thoughts the weight pressing against her head changed and lessened with a new voice seeping into their mind from the outside... The human would have jumped if they could.

Taking a calming tone as the human's roiling mind took notice of them the voice began. "Human... Welcome. It is I who has brought you here I will ask some questions and I need you to answer them truthfully-" Recovering from being stunned at the intrusion into their mind the human cuts the mystical calm voice off.

A tinge of anger boils and shines through in the human's tone. "You brought me here...? Put me back! I- Oh wait if I am dead, then would putting me back mean... Huh..." The human trails off their thoughts muddled and mixed. While they are distracted with their own pondering the calm soothing voice pops up once again.

"I apologize I cannot put you back yet... There is a terrible danger coming. I need hero's to save the world." They wait a tick for any objections before continuing to their questions. "What is your name human."

A frustrated groan for lack of the ability to throw her hands up in the air spilled from her potentially non-existant throat. "Of course not... Of course I can't just go back... My name is Brenda, don't forget it."

"Noted... Very well, what is your gender?"

Brenda pauses and thinks for a bit. "Can't you like tell or- eh, whatever, I'm a gal. Don't know why that matters for saving the world."

"It's all important. Next is your sexual orientation. What partners suit you?"

A small burst of mirthful laughter rises from Brenda. "Do you really want me to save the world, or are you just trying to set me up on a date? Doubt you're going to let me not answer... So! I am straight, mostly. Dudes, again mostly, usually smaller guys... But if a gal has the right attitude and swagger-" It is the calming voice that Cuts Brenda off this time drowning out Brenda as she goes on about her... Types.

"That will be enough, next could you tell me about your personalty? More than is showing through already."

"Er, well, I'm not very complicated. I am kinda loud I've been told that a lot, I don't take things laying down or... Have much restraint people have put it that way. I am pretty confident in myself, bold and all that. I'm pretty blunt. I'm not dumb, even if... I can get tricked easy sometimes... I'm probably not the best person for saving whatever this world of yours is. But uh... Yeah, that seems about it."

"That I could very much see. I do not think you are dumb either. I think there is more potential in you than you think. And... Then what is your background? Where did you come from before you came here."

The distinct need to rub the back of her head hits Brenda's mind before she mentally sighs. "That is a bit awkward, well, I never really did great with any kind of schooling... Didn't like listening and I got in trouble a lot for falling asleep in class... Which was totally unfair since it turned out I had narcolepsy. And my home life wasn't so great, I got out of it as soon as I could and just... Packed up and left? Been kinda wandering since, seeing all sorts of places." Pausing again while trying to take a breath that never came Brenda continued her voice a bit less boisterous and proud. "I kinda... Ended up joining a gang, by accident in my early 20's. I didn't really know what I was doing, thought it was just a buncha tough guys and gals but... Yeah, that didn't end well. Took me probably a bit longer than it should have to figure out the bar fights and stuff was actually protection racket stuff. I was trying to get out of that mess... Then I woke up here."

The voice pulsing in her mind seems to hesitate before continuing. "Even if the past isn't the brightest the future can always be better than where you started. Just one last question now... What do you like, and what do you dislike."

A small humorless chuckle seeps from Brenda. "Not quite what you were wanting from your hero huh? Well... I like fighting, gets my blood pumping a bit. I like swimming and surfing. Bad jokes. And... I like Snow. I always wanted to see some. I like bugs, always found them little suckers cute." Brenda drifts off for a moment in thought then tries to shake her metaphorical head. "Uh, I don't like getting tricked. Or the heat, I was always sweaty and it sucked... I don't like people picking on those smaller or weaker than them. And I don't like needles... Or medicine really."

"Thank you for answering my questions. In a moment I will have you off to your new world... In a form I think will be fitting." The pressure in Brenda's head lessened and she was able to relax a bit the ache dulling... But before what the voice said could click for her Brenda's consciousness started to fade.

In a small alcove in a cave a large lapras materialized tucked in against the dirt and stone, the spines on her shell digging in. Her body bare of any clothing showing her massive assets to match her huge frame, which took up nearly the whole width of the tunnel.

Brenda woke with a proper deep groan, blinking blearily as she wondered if she had some weird dream from something she ate... Before she looked down at her new form. Blinking a bit she lifts her hands to rub her eyes just to see they two are a shade of blue. "Did... Didn't think... Well... Guess someone slipped me something or... That wasn't quite a dream..." Brenda attempts to push herself up in spite of the low ceiling and her spines stuck in the ground.
