What's next?
did something happen?
That night, while you slept in her arms, it finally happened.
The continuous delay of any real contraception had bought more than enough time. Your seed took root. New life began in the quiet hours before dawn, unseen and unfelt by either of you.
You wake the next morning to a different Sandra.
She is already awake, propped on one elbow beside you, watching your face with an expression so soft it almost startles you. When your eyes open she smiles—slow, warm, completely unguarded—and leans down to kiss you. Not the hungry, open-mouthed kiss of the previous days, but something gentler, lingering, full of quiet affection. Her hand rests on your chest, thumb stroking absently, as if she has been waiting for this exact moment.
“Morning,”
she murmurs against your lips, then kisses you again.
She is unusually clingy in the loveliest way. When you shift she follows, tucking herself against your side, one leg draped over yours, cheek pressed to your shoulder. Every few minutes she tilts her face up for another soft kiss, or nuzzles under your jaw, or simply lies there looking at you like she is cataloguing the details. The radiant, well-fucked glow is still there, but it has been joined by something calmer and more certain.
You notice the change. Of course you do. Sandra has always been physical with you, especially this past week, but this is different—less pure hunger, more open tenderness. She seems comfortable in a way she hasn’t allowed herself to be before, as if some internal question has been quietly answered overnight.
You, however, have no memory of the sleepy words you spoke while falling asleep inside her. The confession sits only in her mind. As far as you know, nothing was said. You simply wake to this unusually lovely, dovey version of your best friend and accept it as another strange, welcome development of the holiday.
She keeps you close through the slow morning.
When desire inevitably rises again she doesn’t straddle you with the same single-minded urgency as yesterday. She draws you over her instead, guides you in with her own hand, and holds you there with both arms and both legs while you move together in a deep, unhurried rhythm. The whole time she keeps kissing you—soft, repeated, almost reverent kisses that have little to do with breeding talk and everything to do with the certainty she now carries alone.
You are still the only one who doesn’t know why.
The wife treatment arrives in full force and never lets up.
From the moment you wake, Sandra treats you with a soft, domestic devotion that goes far beyond even the caretaker day. She brings you coffee exactly the way you like it without asking. When you sit on the couch she curls into your side and stays there, fingers absently playing with the hem of your shirt. She kisses your cheek or the corner of your mouth every time she passes. When the two of you end up back in bed—which happens often—she holds you through it like the sex is only part of something larger, stroking your hair afterward and murmuring quiet little endearments that make your chest tight for reasons you can’t quite name.
She packs a small plate of fruit and sets it in front of you with a smile. She runs a bath and then pulls you in with her, washing your back with slow, careful hands. Every glance she gives you is warm and certain, as if some private decision has already been made on her side and she is simply living in the result.
By early afternoon the sheer volume of it starts to feel pointed.
You finally catch her wrist when she leans in for yet another lingering kiss and keep her there, searching her face.
“Okay… did something happen?” you ask.
“You’re being—”
you gesture vaguely at the entire soft, wife-like performance of the day
“—a lot. Even for us right now. Did I do something?”
Sandra’s expression turns sly at once.
The corners of her mouth curve in that familiar teasing way you have known since childhood. She doesn’t look caught or flustered. She looks like she is enjoying exactly this moment—you confused, off-balance, trying to work out what invisible line you crossed or what invisible gift you accidentally gave her.
“Something happened?” she repeats, voice light. “Hmm. Maybe. Maybe not.”
She leans in and brushes a slow kiss against the corner of your mouth, then another against your jaw.
“You’re thinking too hard. Just enjoy it.”
She slips free of your loose hold and walks toward the kitchen, hips swaying just enough to keep your eyes on her, and throws one last glance over her shoulder—eyes bright with private amusement.
“You’ll figure it out eventually. Or you won’t. Either way works for me.”
Then she is gone around the corner, leaving you sitting there with the distinct, frustrating certainty that she knows exactly what shifted and has no intention of making it easy for you.
She has always loved teasing you.
Today she is simply doing it with a new, deeper kind of satisfaction.
