What awaits you inside?
Dad!?
I expected Cassandra, my stunning girlfriend and the woman of my dreams, to greet me at the door of our new house together. Instead there stood my father, short and overweight, beer belly sticking out in a shirt that was a bit too small, a grin on his weathered old face as he looked up at me.
"Surprise!" he said, pulling me in for a strong hug just like he did when I left home. After a few seconds he broke off the embrace and I stared and stammered.
"Dad!? Here? What are, I mean why are you, it's-"
"Relax kiddo, take a breath," he said. I did as he suggested, a deep breath in. Then out. Then another. Before I could ask the question properly he was already explaining.
"You know how your mother is, she was so worried about you two adjusting to life out here! We talked about it and she suggested one of us come stay with you for a bit. Help with unpacking and settling in, take care of the food and pitch in, that sort of thing. Make things easier as you and your lovely girl settle into college life!"
Immediately I was torn. I was so eager and excited to start my life alone with Cassandra, but at the same time having my dad here would help so much. It was so kind, so sweet of him and mom to worry so much, even if it was overbearing. Before I could say anything, foot steps came crashing down the stairs, Cassandra's bubbly excitement filling the room.
"Jason! You're finally here!" she said, coming over for a quick hug and a peck on the cheek. A few excited bounces on her feet later and her attention turned to my father, then back to me.
"Your dad explained everything right? He showed up about an hour ago and told me he's staying with us!" she said, bouncing a bit more, clearly unaware of how much it was making her giant chest jiggle.
"Isn't he just the BEST!?" Cassandra said, bounding over and crashing into my father for a hug. As she did he staggered back a few steps, chuckling as his left hand rested on her back, and his right had landed...right on her ass. I shrugged it off, clearly just an accident from the surprise hug and Cassandra didn't seem to notice anyway. After a second she stepped back and the reality set in. For at least the first week or two of our lives here, my father would be living with us.
