The Convention

Chapter 2 by Silos Silos

The RED COACH pulled out of the bus station at 5 pm and Celine watched her town scroll past the window in a blur of strip malls and church steeples and eventually, open fields.

Frieda sat beside her, two comfortable seats with a small table between them. Frieda was 34 with dark curly hair and a laugh that filled whatever room she was in. They’d been friends since high school, had stayed close through marriages and moves and the grinding demands of motherhood.

“How’s John-Paul?” Frieda asked.

“Good. Busy. You know.”

“And Annie?”

“Perfect. She’s with Marta for the weekend.” Celine’s four-year-old daughter, the reason she’d left the bank, the reason her days were structured around naptimes and playground visits and tiny laundry that smelled like fabric softener and graham crackers. “I think Marta’s planning to take her to the children’s museum.”

“She’s a good neighbor.”

“She is.”

The train rattled over a switch. Frieda pulled out her phone and started scrolling through the convention agenda.

“So the welcome event is tonight at 7pm but it’s casual - drinks in the hotel bar, probably. As this bus ride will take over 4 hours, we won't have a chance to attend. The real show starts Saturday at one. Product reveals, success stories, motivational speakers. Then the dinner and the dance.”

“And Sunday?”

“Sunday we sleep in and take the bus home.” Frieda looked up, eyes twinkling. “If we sleep at all.”

They talked about Celine's expectations, the people she was about to meet, and the money this job might bring.

About half the way Celine's eyelids became heavy and she drifted to a napp ... dreaming about Steff's words and the things she didn't say.

The hotel was a glass tower in downtown Orlando, sixteen stories of gleaming corporate ambition. Their room was on the twelfth floor, two queen beds, a view of the pool and the convention center and the distant smudge of theme parks on the horizon.

They arrived at ten. Frieda took the first shower. Celine unpacked her nightgown - a pale blue silk slip that John-Paul had bought her for their second anniversary - and slipped it on while the bathroom door was still closed.

Frieda emerged wrapped in a towel. Her hair was turbaned in a second towel. Her skin was flushed pink from the heat of the water.

“Do you mind?” she asked, gesturing at the towel. “I sleep naked. I overheat otherwise.”

“Go for it,” Celine said. “I’m not easily scandalized.”

Frieda laughed and dropped the towel.

Her body was soft and rounded, hips and belly and thighs that had carried children and never quite returned to what they’d been at twenty. But there was a confidence in the way she moved, an unselfconsciousness that Celine envied. She climbed into bed without looking for a robe or a cover-up, settled against the pillows, and turned off her lamp.

“Good night, Celine.”

“Good night, Frieda.”

Celine lay in the dark. The air conditioning hummed. The sheets were cool and crisp and smelled faintly of bleach.

She thought about Steff’s bruise. About Steff’s voice saying three or four times a night. About the word remarkable and the way Steff had almost said more before she’d caught herself.

She pressed her thighs together and did not touch herself.

Breakfast was a buffet on the mezzanine level: stainless steel chafing dishes, towers of pastries, a chef in a white hat making omelettes to order. The room buzzed with conversation and the clink of coffee cups and the particular energy of people who’d traveled to be somewhere, who’d paid for the privilege of believing in something.

Steve found them at their table.

“Ladies.” He wore a polo shirt with the Amway logo and a pair of chinos that fit him well. His smile was genial, professional, and when his eyes met Celine’s she felt a small electric jolt travel down her spine. “Good to see you both. Celine, glad you could make it.”

He remembered her name. Of course he remembered her name. He was a salesman. But still. “Happy to be here,” Celine said.

He winked. Patted Frieda’s shoulder. Moved on to the next table.

The morning passed in a blur of breakout sessions - building your network, mastering the product catalog, telling your story. Celine took notes but absorbed little. Her attention kept drifting to the ballroom doors, to the schedule on her phone, to the countdown until the main event began.

At one o’clock the ballroom filled.

There had to be fifteen hundred people. The stage was massive, flanked by screens showing the Amway logo in rotating animations. The lights dimmed. The music swelled. A voiceover boomed through the speakers: Welcome to the Achievers Invitational!

The crowd erupted.

For the next five hours Celine watched people walk across that stage to accept plaques and trophies and standing ovations. She watched product demonstrations - a water filtration system that removed impurities she hadn’t known existed, a skincare line that promised to reverse cellular aging - and she watched the audience lean forward in their seats, hungry for the script, hungry for the success, hungry for the belonging.

The dinner was grilled chicken and roasted vegetables and a chocolate mousse that Celine ate too quickly. The wine was plentiful and she drank two glasses.

The dance started at eight.

The ballroom transformed. The house lights went amber and purple. A DJ set up on the stage and the first bass drops vibrated through the floor. The crowd, loosened by wine and the long day and the promise of the night ahead, filled the dance floor in minutes.

Celine danced with Steve, danced with strangers whose names she forgot as soon as they were introduced. She danced with a woman from Jacksonville who’d been selling Amway for fifteen years and swore it had saved her marriage. She danced with youger and older men, feeling like floating

Somewhere around ten, she lost track of Frieda.

She scanned the dance floor, the bar, the edges of the room. Nothing. No dark curls, no infectious laugh.

She drank another glass of wine. The hour blurred. The music changed from pop to hip-hop to a slow dance remix that emptied the floor of all but the most determined couples.

At midnight Celine decided she was done. Her feet ached. Her head swam pleasantly. She took the elevator to the twelfth floor, walked the long corridor to room 1216, and swiped her keycard.

The door swung open.

And there, on the bed closest to the window, on Frieda’s side of the bed, was Frieda herself. On her hands and knees. Naked.

Behind her, on his knees, fully dressed except for his open pants, was Steve.

He was gripping her hips. Thrusting into her with a steady rhythm that made the bed frame squeak against the wall. Frieda’s face was buried in the pillows but her sounds, the sounds she was making, were unmistakable. Low guttural moans that rose in pitch with every drive of his hips.

Neither of them noticed Celine.

She stood in the doorway. Paralyzed. Watching. Watching the muscles in Steve’s back bunch beneath his shirt. Watching his hands dig into the soft flesh of Frieda’s hips. Watching the slick length of him disappear into her body and emerge again, glistening, thick, remarkable.

Steff’s voice in her head: Like it was designed in a lab.

Frieda lifted her head, saw Celine and smiled.

“Oh good,” she said, her voice thick with pleasure. “You’re here. Come over. Have a look.” She moaned as Steve drove deeper. “Maybe help me with this monster cock.”

The door clicked shut behind her. Celine’s hand stayed on the handle, knuckles white, the keycard still wedged between two fingers.

She couldn’t look away.

Steve’s rhythm didn’t falter. His hips drove forward in a steady, piston-like cadence that made the headboard knock against the wall, soft at first, then harder, a metronome of flesh and fabric and Frieda’s open-throated moans. The sound filled the room, echoed off the mirror facing the bed, wrapped around Celine’s spine and squeezed.

She’d never watched anyone fuck before. Not really. Not like this. Not with the hotel sheets bunched under Frieda’s knees and Steve’s shirt still buttoned, his tie loosened but not removed, his pants bunched around his thighs. The contrast was obscene - her completely bare, every curve and dimple exposed, him still dressed like he’d wandered in from a sales seminar and simply … stayed.

Frieda’s fingers clawed at the mattress. “Oh God, Steve, right there, don’t you dare stop ... fuck me deep ...”

He didn’t stop. He pulled her hips back onto his cock with a grunt, the muscles in his forearms cording, and Frieda’s spine arched into a deep catlike curve.

Celine took one step forward, then another.

Her heels came off, kicked aside without her looking down. Her feet sank into the hotel carpet, that strange industrial pile that smelled faintly of disinfectant and a thousand previous guests’ bare feet. She didn’t care. She leaned there, weightless, watching.

Steve looked at her.

Not a glance. Not a flicker. He turned his head - slow, deliberate - and met her eyes while he was still inside Frieda, while the wet sounds of their coupling continued uninterrupted. His expression wasn’t smug. Wasn’t even particularly surprised. It was curious. Assessing. As if he was cataloging her face for later.

Then he smiled. Small. Almost polite. And went back to fucking Frieda like Celine was a piece of furniture he’d just noticed was well-made.

The heat between Celine’s legs had become unbearable.

Her own hand crept down before she gave it permission. Past the silk of her dress. Past the elastic of her underwear. Her fingers found the slickness waiting there, the oversensitive bud of her clitoris, and she pressed. Just pressed. Not moving. Not yet. Just the pressure of her own fingertips grounding her to her own body while she watched Frieda’s body take what Steve was giving.

Frieda gasped, her voice muffled by pillows. “He doesn’t ... he doesn’t stop, Celine, he just keeps going, I’ve never ... oh fuck ... I’ve never had anyone who could ... like this ...”

And then Steve did something that made Celine’s fingers move. He reached down and gathered Frieda’s dark curls into one hand, wrapped them around his fist, and pulled. Not hard enough to hurt - just enough to lift Frieda’s face from the pillows, just enough to arch her throat, just enough to change the angle of her hips so that when he thrust again she screamed.

Not a moan. A scream. High and shocked and swallowed immediately by the hum of the air conditioning.

Celine’s hand moved faster. Her hips pressed forward into her own palm, a helpless involuntary rock. She was still standing in the doorway, still fully clothed, still a voyeur to her own desire, and she was going to cum watching them. She was going to cum standing up in a hotel room in Orlando while her best friend got fucked by the regional supervisor.

She didn’t.

Steve’s rhythm broke. His hips stuttered. He pulled out of Frieda with a slick audible pop and she whimpered at the emptiness, but before she could complain he was stripping himself - hand flying over his shaft, teeth bared, every muscle in his body tightening toward a single point of release.

"I ... I'm ... cumming ... now ..."

Frieda flipped on her back. The first jet landed across her belly. The second splashed her breasts. The third and fourth striped her ribcage, her navel, the soft crease where her thigh met her hip. Steve groaned through his teeth, a long low sound that seemed to cost him something, and when he finished he stayed there, kneeling, cock still in his hand, chest heaving.

The room smelled of sex. Salt and sweat and something muskier underneath.

Frieda lay there, painted in his release, and laughed. A breathless delighted laugh that made Celine’s chest constrict. “Jesus, Steve. Warn a girl.”

He was still breathing hard. "I just did ... !"

“You said it like half a second before.”

“Fair enough.”
