Bank

Chapter 10 by lvup

You're outside your local bank. Outside is a 24 hour ATM for any quick banking needs, but in order to use it you need a bank account. Getting a bank account sounds terrible, but after getting your cellphone stolen is necessary. The last thing you need is to work a lot, and have all your funds taken. And opening a bank account is necessary to work as a waitress. You walk over to one of the desks and an employee sits down with you to set up your account.

"Can you please tell me your occupation miss?" She asks.

"I'm currently working as a Waitress." You say to her.

"Oh... ok, that's a fine job." She seems nicer after listening that you have a normal job, and you wonder how she will react if you said to her that you are street performer that plays for tips. She punches a few things into a computer and has you fill out a few forms. Once you're all set she tanks you for your business, and you walk away.

You look to the sky and see the sun vanishing. Without a watch or a cellphone, the sun is your only way to know what time it is, without asking a stranger the time. So you decide to return to your home. You sit down and pull out your acoustic guitar to start practicing for a couple of hours. The idea to have a job, and a bank account makes you feel that somehow all is working well. Your fingers feel your needs, but you need of a lot more practice. You feel a little tired, but your Guitar Proficiency is a little better.

*Your apartment is still a mess, so cleaning now is a priority*. You spend a few hours cleaning trying to make your apartment more liveable. It's a lot of work but at least you feel like you're making some progress (20% done). And is time to sleep. Having a great day, and a clean house, helps you to have a restorative sleep. A new day comes fast. Is time to go to your work.

You change your clothes in the back room and begin your shift. You're nearing the end of your shift and a slow business for someone that lives on tips is not good. You see a gentlemen who's been sitting at one of the counter stools for a little over an hour just sipping coffee. A person that asks free refills, and is reading a book, is your worse nightmare. It's not really an issue so much that he's keeping a spot at the counter from another customer, there's plenty of space. But it's annoying having to keep checking up on him, and because him is not ordering anything ... you can't get a tip on the order.

"At this rate I'm not going to make a dime's tip off this guy..." You think to yourself, and decide to try to up sell him on something and see if you can somewhat salvage the remnants of an otherwise slow day. You grab the pot of decaf and walk over to him. You ask if he'd like you to refill his cup, a simple way to start a conversation. He responds by giving you a rather disinterested nod, barely taking his eyes off his book. Is time to make your move.

"I see you've been drinking a lot of black coffee, would you like something sweet like a piece of pie, or maybe some food from the kitchen, sir?" You ask trying to sound sweet and professional.

"What I'd appreciate is you to just quietly keep my coffee cup full and otherwise shut up and leave me alone. Got that?" He answers gruffly in a thick throaty voice. The sharp rebuke from the old has you taken aback, but you do your best not to outwardly show it. Although now you're considering getting even with the man.

"It's bad enough he just sips coffee and orders nothing else. But that was uncalled for." You think in frustration.
