When did I see Amanda next?
Packing her BMW
Right before dinner, I finally spotted her. I hopped out of the driving Gator and ran to her.
She was stuffing a box into the small trunk of her white BMW.
“Where are you going?” I asked.
“To find a new home. My cousins no longer want me around.”
“What? It’s their fault. Why are they punishing you?”
“It’s the real world.”
“I’ll help you pack. I’ll come with you.”
She sighed, “I’m going alone. I need to restart my life. I was stagnant here.”
A stab in the throat.
“Stay here. Fuck these girls. Have fun. Go back home. Start your own life.”
“Amandy….”
She glared at me, “Please don’t say that name. Last night was fun, but we’re in different places in life. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get over you fucking my cousin.”
I didn’t have a response. She made it seemed like what we had was just physical. It wasn’t.
I begged, “Just tell me where you’re going.”
She shrugged, “I don’t know where.”
“How can I get ahold of you?”
“You can’t.”
I started crying. I didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t breaking her ice queen persona.
Not a goodbye kiss. Not a goodbye hug. Just a wave out the window. “Stay safe” and a cloud full of dust.
The first love of my life gone like that.
