So how does the Venturia defense go?

Very poorly

Chapter 95 by frogogre1

The Venturians were celebrating the battle win, and the creatures were pushed back into the darkness of the sea. So it was that Venta had a spot of honor next to the queen, Cleo, the ruler of their people. The woman drank and made merry on a platform above a pit. In the pit some of the best gladiators fought each other for the entertainment of the woman above.

Who laughed and kicked them at every opportunity, enjoying their superiority just as well as the alcohol that was flowing freely as ordered by their queen? Venta turned towards her queen, a slight redness to her cheeks from all of the alcohol. "My queen, do the men entertain you well?" Venta said, to which Cleo shook her hand in a so-so manner.

"They serve well enough, but there's a lack of certain excitement to the whole thing. Besides, were she to celebrate how well you and your raiders did in service of the kingdom." Cleo said, answering politely to the question and continuing to watch the events below with a slightly bored look on her face. Venta shook her head at what Cleo said and walked a bit drunkenly over to the commander of the pit below them.

"Nonsense, my queen. We need proper entertainment to celebrate, do we not?" Venta said to Cleo before turning towards the pit commander. Raise the difficulty; it is too easy for these worthless men to fight each other. How can we be entertained by such poor effort?" Venta said in a slurred voice, to which the pitmaster nodded and then pulled a few levers and pushed a few switches around. In response, traps activated, and a large squid was released into the pit.

The men found themselves having to fight harder as there were suddenly spinning blades at their back and a large squid determined to feed itself with a pound of their flesh. The men could not say anything against these added threats, merely trying to survive them as the women, both figuratively and literally above them, laughed and threw alcohol at them. Venta looked back at her queen, hoping for praise, but before she could ask for an opinion, an explosion roared out.

The women around the arena were shocked and dazed, a combination of the alcohol and surprise keeping them on the back foot. Queen Cleo was not on the back foot and responded immediately. "Up, you fools, up! We are under attack!" Queen Cleo shouted out, and the others came to their senses, rushing from the chamber and out into the halls of the palace, quickly making their way from the hallways into the city.

The moment they stepped out, they saw chaos and fleeing as girls old and young fled for their lives. While those of a normal adult age were desperately trying to hold back the returning horde of sea monsters. The horde is now far more dangerous with it being led by a strange giant monster at the horde's center. The horde still moved randomly, but there was a direction to it as the defenders found themselves flanked as sea monsters attacked them from a dozen different angles.

The Venturians did what they always did when they were on the back foot which was charge straight at the nearest enemy and hope sheer aggression would win the day. It didn't as more and more Venturian raiders were taken away by the sea monsters. " With me my warriors charge forward!" Venta said trying to counter the assault upon her city.

It was all for naught, as in the next few minutes half of her force was taken and the other half were trying their best to perform a fighting retreat. Venta, having no choice but to admit the battle was lost, went to go warn the queen that she had to flee. She never got the chance, as one of the sea monsters, a mix of crab and clam, grabbed her and dragged her to places unknown.

Queen Cleo was in her thrown room getting reports of how the battle was going and she didn't like what she heard. It didn't take long to hear how the battle was lost along with the city and she as well as what was left of her people and army needed to flee now. Though she needed something for the invading sea monsters to chew on if they were to make it out and not he caught as they tried to flee. She thought quickly and a sadistic smile went over her face as a plan made itself obvious.

Cleo looked to the few pit masters that were there in her throne room. " Send the gladiators out have them slow the enemy as we retreat!" Cleo commanded condemning the gladiators to fall to the invading sea monsters. The pit master's rush to obey quickly chaining the gladiators in rough lines in front of the palace front gates as soldiers and civilians fled inside.

Soon enough the gladiators were fighting and holding the line as the woman of Venturia threw a secret escape route in the palace's back. Klarion looked at the destruction they had caused and the fear, delighting at it all. He laughed a menacing childish laugh that somehow echoed around them. That is until Teekl hissed and brought his attention to the gladiators holding the line.

"I see Teekl," Klarion said, looking at the line in front of them, smiling. The gladiators were doing a better job of holding them back due to years of constant combat in the pits. Mediter gave her horrifying whale call at Klarion, the sound causing a few gladiators to try and flee. The chains holding them in place quickly reminded them that wasn't an option.

Klarion noticed the chains and the eagerness to flee. He smiled to go self and responded to Teekl and Mediter. " You two worry too much I have this." Klarion said then blasted the chains with raw chaos causing it to turn to dust that drifted to the bottom of the cities floor. The chains no longer holding them on place the gladiators scattered. The sea monsters not interested in them sense they weren't in the way continued they're pursuit.

Klarion didn't bother them either, merely enjoying the show they provided as battle slaves who suddenly found freedom went about getting their vengeance. They smashed statues, robbed stores, and attacked those trying to hide in buildings as well as rubble. The chains of their flight through the city are adding to Klarion's entertainment.

Klarion, Teekl, and Mediter followed after Cleo and the remnants of her kingdom as they fled to their neighbors. They all knew Cleo would try to make a last stand with her hated rival now that she had no choice. Klarion smiled to himself at the old enemies having an alliance against a greater threat. "Oh Teekl, this could be the start of a beautiful relationship between two enemies. Let's do that, shall we! Klarion said to Teekl's happy hiss as they all continued closing in.
