You...
Ask her what she saw
Kyler’s gaze snaps back to you, and the raw intelligence you once saw in her eyes, the one that aced AP Physics and won debate tournaments is back, cold and sharp as a shard of glass. “What do you think I saw, Dad?” The words are quiet, but they land like punches. “I saw your user. I saw the chat logs. And before that, I saw the porn. I saw the search history. The tiktok ladies. I saw what you searched through and what you pick to end your night ..." She trails off not wanting to finish that sentence.

The air in the kitchen seems to vanish, leaving you in a vacuum. You open your mouth, but no sound comes out. Denial is a reflex, a flimsy shield held up to a cannonball.
Kyler leans forward, her hands flat on the table, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper that is somehow more terrifying than a shout. “I saw everything."
She recites the details like evidence in a court-martial. The filth of it, laid out on the breakfast table between the syrup stains and coffee rings, is obscene. You want to dissolve into the wood grain, to be erased.
“So you want to run,” she says, her voice cracking slightly. “You think you’re the only one who wants to get in a car and just keep driving? You think you’re the only one who looks at this life and feels like it’s a cage?”

A single, hot tear traces a path down your cheek. It’s the first honest thing your body has done all day. “Kyler, I…”
“I’m not going to tell Mom,” she cuts you off, her tone flat. The lack of emotion is more unnerving than anger would be. “What would that do? It would break her. And for what? So everyone can know what a selfish, cheating liar you are?” The words are acid, and they burn. But she turns sweet. "But I won't because you are a great father to me. You always will be. I forgive you. I hope you can do the same for me."
