She leaned in toward the audience like she was sharing gossip and spoke plainly, loud enough for everyone to hear:

The weirdness of the question seemed to catch her off guard. Rebecca finally raised her head to look at him, confusion mixing with fear. She stammered her answer.

“Y… y-yes?”

The hypnotist nodded slowly, satisfied.

“Glad we have that agreement.”

Before she could react, he stepped forward fast, covered her eyes completely with both gloved hands, and pulled her head in close against his chest. Zachery watched as Mrs. Soto’s body instantly went slack, arms dropping limp to her sides, knees buckling slightly as she leaned heavily into the hypnotist.

The man leaned in close to Mrs. Soto and started whispering into her ear. He spoke for a few long minutes, the same way he had done with all the others. Zachery couldn’t hear a single word, but he watched every second of it with a sick mix of dread and curiosity in his chest. He had to admit, if he wasn’t personally involved in all this, if it wasn’t his own mother and his crush up there, this whole fucked up show would actually be hot. The power, the control, the way the man could break people so easily… it was twisted, but part of him could see the appeal. But he was involved. So instead of getting turned on, it just felt like one long, never-ending nightmare.

Soon the man pulled back from Mrs. Soto. He snapped his fingers sharply right in front of her face.

Unlike the others, she didn’t snap out of the trance with a smile or confusion. Her eyes stayed glassy and distant. But she did start moving.
