Ancient Spellbook

Zeke perused used book stores on his weekends. Usually finding a cool novel to try out or some crazy unique finds.

It was this particular Saturday that his hand fell on a leather bound book with a red gemstone on the front cover. "Weird... Is this some special edition of Dungeons and Dragons?" He asked himself as he turned the book over in his hand. He could have sworn the gem stone glowed at his touch. He didn't purchase it, but made a note of the oddity before buying the trash sci-fi and fantasy novels he'd actually wanted.

At his apartment, he dumped out his bag of books only to discover the tome sitting at the bottom. "How'd you get here?" He asked, no one in particular.

The book sat silent, like a book, not answering. "Well, let's see what we got here," Zeke said, opening to the first page. It was a quick read for the introductory, but it was handled written. More like someone's journal from the 1700s than a printed book.

If you are reading this I am long since dead, but with this grimoire in your hands you will be able to change the world around you in unimaginable ways. Use this power with discretion as there are more warlocks and witches out there who will bother you if you cross their path. My name is mistress Elandra and my specialty was transfiguration and mesmerism. My suggestion for first timers is to track down a willing compatriot to act as your familiar, a witch's assistant; usually a mortal we turn into a cat, crow, or raven to test our transfiguring powers. Or you could start casting on yourself, but that could result in... Accidentally transforming yourself into something that can't speak the incantations.

If you don't have a willing compatriot, I suggest the "Enthrall" spell to ... convince ... someone to help you ... That being said start with the novice level spells, then apprentice, then master level spells. It is common for spells to fail if you cast them not at your proper level. If casting against a seasoned warlock or witch you may find your spell reflected back at you.
