Be responsible with the drinks

Eventually, after finishing your drinks, neither of you orders another round.

Not because the atmosphere isn’t good.

Honestly?

That’s the problem.

The ocean breeze drifting through the patio. The string lights glowing overhead. The music humming softly around the beach bar while the sunset deepens across the water — the entire evening already feels perfect exactly the way it is.

And neither of you really wants to ruin that by overdoing it.

“You know,” Jane says while finishing the last sip of her drink, “I’m actually proud of us for being responsible.”

You raise an eyebrow immediately. “Us?”

“Correct.”

“You’re the one who got excited over frozen cocktails.”

“And?” Jane replies proudly.

You laugh quietly while she lightly bumps her shoulder against yours near the railing.

The drinks leave both of you relaxed, but clear-headed.

Warm.

Comfortable.

The kind of buzz that softens the edges of the evening without making either of you lose yourselves in it.

At one point Jane leans comfortably beside you while watching the ocean below the patio.

“This trip’s been really nice,” she says quietly.

“You’re smoother when you’re slightly buzzed,” she says suspiciously.

“That wasn’t smooth.”

“It worked though,” Jane replies smugly.

Unfortunately?

Again, she has a point.

The two of you stay near the railing for another few minutes afterward, just talking quietly while the beach bar grows louder around you. More people begin filling the patio while music shifts slightly more upbeat from the speakers overhead.

Eventually though, the crowded atmosphere starts feeling like a lot compared to how peaceful the rest of the day has been.

Not bad.

Just loud.

Jane notices it too eventually.

“You wanna go walk?” she asks softly while looking up at you.

You nod immediately.

Honestly, that sounds perfect.

A little while later, the two of you leave the beach bar together beneath glowing string lights while the ocean breeze hits softly against your skin outside.

The evening air feels cooler now compared to earlier.

Jane immediately slips both hands around your arm while walking beside you down the beach path, warm and comfortable against your side while waves crash softly below the shoreline nearby.

“You know,” she says softly after a minute, “this might be my favorite day we’ve had in a while.”

You glance toward her.

The beach lights glow softly against her face while wind moves through her hair beneath the fading evening sky.

And honestly?

Your chest tightens a little hearing that.

“Yeah?” you ask quietly.

“Mhm,” Jane replies while leaning lightly against your shoulder. “Today just felt… easy.”

The shoreline stretches quietly ahead of both of you while the sound of the ocean rolls steadily beside the path below.

And somehow, with her hanging onto your arm beneath the warm evening sky, the entire world suddenly feels very far away.
