Jessica’s Inauguration Ceremony

Finally the day of Jessica’s would be inaugurated arrived. As she stood on the stage with everyone cheering for her, a deep sense of pride and accomplishment washed over her.

“Now Ms. Masters.”, a councilman spoke, “Do you solemnly swear to use the authority given to you for the betterment of our society?”

“I do”, Jessica responded.

“Do you swear to behave in the manor befitting the mayor?”

“I do”, Jessica said again.

“In order to fully accept your role as mayor are you willing to provide a show of dedication?”

Jessica paused for a moment. This was the big one, the question that confirmed if she was willing to give up a part of her life to be mayor. “I…do”, she said hesitantly.

As Jessica agreed from off stage a large wheel was brought up. This is what the city dubbed the ‘Wheel of Dedication’. On the wheel had many different tiles and each one had a different thing the mayor would have to give up. Meat, electronics, cars, shoes, showers the list went on and on.

“Ms. Masters when you are ready you may spin the wheel.”

Taking a deep breath Jessica took the wheel and spun it as hard as she can. She had no way of knowing what it would land on. Now all she could do was pray it wasn’t something major.
