Honestly, you were almost impressed. You didn't think it was humanly possible to make an office that gaudy, but clearly, White managed to prove you wrong. Is there a prize for bad taste alongside all those trophies... Best Participation? Special Good Try Prize? Really?

Mia:

"I would like to state once again that this is a terrible idea."

Turned out that Mia really wasn't a fan of confronting a murderer in their own home, which was reasonable.

Chance:

"If you have a better plan, I'm all ears."

She stayed silent. Of course, she didn't find anything else, and not for a lack of trying.

Mia:

"We're going to die, aren't we?"

You didn't think White would be stupid enough to **** you in his own office, but before you could share that thought, you were interrupted.

???:

"Welcome! Please furnish me with the title of your personage!"

Speak of the Devil... Redd White was really the spitting image of his office: so incredible gaudy that it had to be a crime, with the swirl in his purple hair, his pink suit using blue diamonds and pearls as buttons and the gold rings on his fingers. Do they have to dress in pink to work here? Kinda ironic for a company named Bluecorp.

Chance:

"What?"

White:

"Your name! What's your name? I was just inquirably... Ah."

Well, it seems he noticed Mia.

Chance:

"My name is Chance Fortuna, and I don't believe I need to introduce Ms. Fey."

White:

"No indeed, you do not. Miss Fey, it splendiferous to finally meet you. Perhaps you'd like to use the opportuvenience to snoop in my business a little further, hmmm?"

You blinked.

Chance:

"I'm sorry, opportuvenience?"

White chuckled condescendingly.

White:

"Oh oh oh, have I intimidated you with my giantesque vocabulary? My business dealings bring me into contact with the elite of the elite, you see. So I'm afraid I am not used to conversing with the wordily-challenged."

Right.

Mia:

"In any case, I'm surprised you seem to dislike my snooping, considering it is your business model."

White:

"Bluecorp does a lot more than 'snooping', my dear. We buy, collect and sell various kinds of information. We are a company of the future! You might say, we ARE the future!"

Well, that just sounds like snooping with extra steps.

White:

"In just 10 years, I've built this business up into the grand office you see now. Ah, in case you were wondering, Bluecorp was named after the color blue! I, Redd White of Bluecorp, as founder and CEO, named it so! And why, you ask? Because I like the color blue of course! Fantabulistic, is it not?"

Mia:

"I see. And speaking of collecting information, am I to assume Miss May works for you?"

White:

"Correct. She is my secretariat. What a shock it was to hear what she has done!"

Mia:

"So you're claiming you did not send her to wiretap my phone in retaliation for my 'snooping'?"

White:

"Miss May is paid to answer phones. Tapping them is NOT in her job description. She does gather information for us as part of her duties. But, I assure you, we do not condone illegal methods! It is ineffable that she would do this."

Mia:

"Really? Then where were you on the night of the ****?"

White:

"Who can say? I seldom pay attention to mundane details such as time and place. My motto is: Don't worry, be happy!"

Well, that's not suspicious at all.

White:

"Speaking of worrying, Miss Fey... I must admit, I am bewilstonished to see you here today. After all, your sister has been accused of ****, I thought you'd be trying to prove her innocence."

Mia surprised you by chuckling.

Mia:

"Oh, don't worry about it, Mr. White. The prosecution has nothing on Maya. The only evidence they have, a meager scrap of paper, can be easily disproved."

White:

"D-Disproved? How?"

Mia:

"Well, gathering information is your business, is it not? You'll see tomorrow, at her trial, Mr. White. All of that to say that, since Maya is as good as acquitted, I decided to get a head start on finding the true culprit for Phoenix's ****."

White's expression was thunderous.

White:

"Am I to assume you're slanderifying my good name and accusing me of having murdered Mr. Wrong?"

Mia:

"Assume all you want, Mr. White, but remember this: I don't give up. My files might have disappeared during Phoenix's ****, but they're far from the only evidence I have given to my sister, and once she's free, we're going to make sure your shady dealings are exposed to the public and that the true murderer is sent to the **** row!"

If looks could kill, Mia would have joined Mr. Wright by now. Then, something unexpected happened: White started to chuckle. Then, he went to his interphone and pressed a button.

Interphone:

[Secretary's Office, hello?]

White:

"Please, connect me to the Chief Prosecutor's office."

Interphone:

[Of course, sir. One moment please...] ... [Mr. White, may I know why you are calling me?]

White:

"Hello, Miss Skye? I've changed my mind. I want to testify tomorrow."

Skye:

[Testify? About what?]

White:

"The Phoenix Wright case. I witnessed the ****, you see. And, thus, as a very important witness, I would like to testify."

Skye:

[Are you sure? I thought you said you didn't want to go to court...]

White:

"Quietude! I told you I changed my mind, didn't I?"

Skye:

[...Very well, Mr. White. I will make the necessary arrangements with prosecutor von Karma, she should come to your office in about an hour.]

White:

"Excellent. Have a good day, Miss Skye."

And with a flourish, he hung up. Next to you, Mia was as pale as a sheet.

Mia:

"W-What was that?"

White:

"Well, you asked me earlier where I was the night Mr. Wrong-place-wrong-time was murdered, didn't you? I just remembered that I was at the hotel, and I witnessed your sister **** him. I believe you'll find out that the prosecutor's case just became a lot more iron-clothed than you were expecting."

Mia's shocked expression changed to one of determination. She's a really good actress. If I didn't know that was the plan, I'd have thought he had the upper hand.

Mia:

"You think so? I will prove my sister's innocence in court, Mr. White. The court will see..."

White:

"The courts will see what I tell them to see. To me, they are mere toys, playthings for my amusement! Now, would you be kind enough to vacate the premises? Let me put it in language you are sure to understand: get out of my office! I have nothing more to say."

Chance:

"Well, that was terrifying."

Mia:

"It was your idea."

Chance:

"And I stand by it. Doesn't make it less terrifying."

Mia:

"At least, it worked. I wasn't sure I could have gotten him to testify."

You shrugged and pulled out your coin.

Chance:

"There was always plan B."

Mia:

"I know, but I don't like relying too much on supernatural means. I prefer to bet on myself, on my own abilities as a lawyer. It keeps me sharp."

Chance:

"Fair enough, it just made me feel kinda useless. I mean, you're incredible, and I'm just a guy with a magic coin."

Mia blushed slightly at your compliment.

Mia:

"To be fair, you didn't ask to be in this situation. You were **** into it by the circumstances and the power plays of a corrupt businessman."

Chance:

"Well, maybe I didn't choose to get into this mess, but I chose to remain in it. I told you, I want to help getting Maya out of jail."

Mia:

"About that... Maybe it would be for the best for you to take a step back tomorrow. After all, we don't know how much your coin can do."

Said coin pulsed offendedly in your hand and, to be honest, you agreed with it.

Chance:

"It worked well enough against April."

Mia:

"Calling her by her first name, are you? And in any way, Miss May was used to take orders from White, we don't know if people could resist the coin's effects with a stronger willpower or mystical abilities of their own."

Mystical abilities like yours?

Chance:

"Fine, let's test make a bet. If I win, you take me as your judicial assistant and let me help you tomorrow. But if you win, I'll withdraw from the case unless you call me."

I don't think I'll lose, but let's not take any chances. Mia sighed.

Mia:

"Goddammit. Fine, what's the bet."

Chance:

"It's simple. Since you think people could resist the coin with enough willpower or abilities of their own, all you have to do is prove it. If you last one minute without admitting that my coin is more powerful than you thought, then you win."

Mia put up a decent fight, to be honest. Maybe it was due to her powers, maybe because she knew about the coin, but she was the only person you had ever seen actively resisting a bet. In the end, she lasted only 45 seconds.

Mia:

"Fine, you win. Your coin is more powerful than I thought. Happy."

Chance:

"I am. How about you?"

She paused thoughtfully.

Mia:

"Well, I guess I should be pretty pissed that you went over my head, but you were just making your point, so I guess I don't really mind."

Chance:

"Interesting how the coin makes people rationalize their thoughts."

Mia looked briefly startled, like she hadn't considered that her feelings might have been altered.

Mia:

"I didn't feel it. I guess the coin really is that powerful."

Powerful enough to make you forget that you should be upset by its mind control.

Chance:

"So are you ready for tomorrow?"

Mia's smile was vicious.

Mia:

"Oh, yes. You don't know how long I've been waiting for this day, for the day I would confront White in court. Tomorrow, he is going down."

How will the trial go?
