Chapter 16 by throbbin
Does Sabine think of any other places to check?
No, follow Glenda's lead
With all you've been through today you decide to just follow along and watch for danger. You know that the more places you search the greater the chance of finding daemons. The faster the three of you can leave this abbey the better.
The first stop, the kitchen, does have some food useful for traveling. It also shows signs of the daemons who've raided this place. Food that was out in the open has been partially eaten and, in some cases, fucked. Rancid cum dribbles from pies and sandwiches that would have been part of the evening meal. You try to hide your revulsion by rearranging the placement of your sword. Glenda lifts her gown and collects sealed items from the pantry along with some waterskins and a pair of oil lanterns. You notice that Xallia too crinkles her nose in disgust. She mutters, "Ratches," under her breath.
Glenda next leads you to the quarters of sister Nadine. The quarters have been ransacked, but they're clearly not the site of **** or debauchery. She was more senior and handled some record keeping for the abbey. You rarely dealt with her, but Glenda reaches under the leg of the small desk in the corner of the room, retrieving a key. "She always kept this spare," says Glenda to herself.
Your next stop is on the lowest level of the abbey, the dry stores. As you go down the staircase Xallia puts a hand on your shoulder and says, "I can feel other daemons. I suspect I know what kind have chosen to take up residence in these cool halls." She gives your shoulder a squeeze and adds, "Some daemons use powerful secretions to dominate their victims quickly. There is little you can do for them, they are lost. Remember that they cannot harm you unless you attack them. Do that and the spell is broken - they would feast upon you."
With such encouraging words you tread carefully down the last flight of stairs, watching for any movement. All you can hear is a wet noise echoing down the halls. You start to smell a salty seaweed-like scent in the air. Then you hear the soft moans. The three of you turn down the corridor toward the dry stores, Xallia taking the lead. The noises get louder and as you turn a corner you finally see the source.
There are a few dozen writhing worms. No, more like centipedes. They're about three feet long, as fat as your wrist and covered in thick white-green slime, trails of which cover the walls and floor. Each of these vile demons has no head, instead the first foot or so is shaped like an oversized phallus. These mockeries of life are crawling over each other and over the bodies of three sisters. They've been completely coated in the thick slime and are stuck fast to the floor. The daemons have glued one leg of each girl to the wall to allow themselves better access to all their holes.
Several bugs break off and raise their heads, the eyeless, flared cockheads swivel to look at you and inside the slit you see a single, recessed eye staring out at you, red and glinting like that of a fly. You nearly lose your lunch when you see one of the bugs ripple along its entire length, feeding a huge load of cum into one of the sisters. Another bug pulls from her mouth and she has time to cough out, "Yes!" before it plunges back in for more. You realize that one of the other sisters has a hand free, but is using it to stroke one of the bugs' heads, trying to draw it back to her side. Each of the three is marked with a red pentagram, visible despite the slime.
You can see Glenda is as disgusted as you are. Xallia looks more disdainful and says, "Come, these seedbugs will not touch us." Indeed the bugs draw back as Xallia passes them and although they watch you they do not approach. Glenda unlocks the door as fast as she can and all three of you lock yourselves inside the dry stores. This place is thankfully untouched, the stale air a blessing after that corridor.
Xallia hugs you both to herself, "I'm sorry you had to see that. Seedbugs are wasteful, disgusting things. They get only scraps normally, those that no other daemon has use for or those whom the daemon lords wish to punish." The way she says that last bit suggests that it's not just mortals who get thrown to these vile creatures. "I'm sorry about your friends. They deserved better than that. If this attack had been more thoroughly planned I'm sure the seedbugs would not even have been brought to this world. Young virgins are a treat they would never normally receive."
Her words aren't exactly comforting, but you do appreciate their tone and the feeling of Xallia's naked breasts. In fact - have you been rubbing your cheek against her bosom? In spite of what you've seen? You get a grip on your mind and emotions again and start searching the crates and sacks for supplies. Glenda follows your lead and she too begins searching.
You find no weapons or armor, but you do find backpacks, sleeping rolls, cloaks and a few sacks with unfitted apprentice's gowns. Then a surprised gasp from Glenda draws your attention. She's standing next to an open crate holding some much more expensive looking clothes. "I didn't know they kept these," she says, holding them up in the light of the lanterns. The clothes are strange to you, then you realize these are surely of elven make. Glenda says, "These are the clothes I wore when I joined the order. I thought the order sold our goods to raise money."
She digs deeper in the box and pulls out a few more nice outfits. Each looks like it was the dress of a young noblewoman. You go over and look, and find to your surprise that you recognize one set. Shortly after you arrived a much more senior sister returned to the abbey wearing these. You saw her in the hall and asked your mentor. She explained that on occasion sisters, in their hunt for daemon summoners, needed to blend in at court or on a visit to the houses or castles of the nobility.
Xallia comes close and looks at the outfits as well. "It will be easier to blend in with these, will it not?" She pulls out a pair of outfits and holds them up in front of you, clearly trying to decide if either will fit you. "And they're expensive, yes? Expensive enough that they might fetch good coin in a village?"
"Yes," says Glenda as she carefully packs the elven gown.
"Perfect," says Xallia, placing a red noblewoman's dress before you and stuffing a rich silk and fur cloak into a pack. "Any hunters will be looking for women in white gowns." You'd like to refuse, after all sisters are supposed to try to live simply and without excess, but you suppose the disguise will help.
Xallia picks out a few more outfits and stuffs them and the red dress into a large sack, slinging it over her shoulder. "It would look out of place if we dress before leaving," she explains. "Now - all we need to do is walk out through the side entrance or go to the stables and see if there are any mounts left there."
Sneak out or check the stables?
