Imminent Fishing Trip

It was the last Friday of the month, meaning your monthly fishing trip with your dad was tomorrow.

You didn't know how to feel about it. You always enjoyed going, but it was your dad that really pushed it. He would mention it several times the week of, but this time you had not heard a peep.

Going down in breakfast in your untamed hair and the clothes you were still borrowing from Gwen you reserved to talk to your dad about the trip, and that was exactly who you ran into in the kitchen making pancakes.

"Good morning, Summer," your dad greets. Everyone had pretty much got used to your new name by now.

"Morning, Dad."

"Pancakes?" has asked.

"Yeah, sure," you respond sitting down at table in the little breakfast nook off the kitchen.

You sit in silence as your dad busies himself with cooking breakfast. It's tense, almost as if he has something to say but is holding back like you are.

"So Dad, about fishing," you blurt out, not being able to stand it anymore, just as he's setting two plates at the table.

There was a nervous laughter that was quickly silenced. "Was that this weekend? I must have forgotten with everything going on."

You could tell your dad wasn't being truthful.

"Look," you say. "I know I'm not really the same."

Your dad moves to interrupt but you continue on.

"I am. I'm in a new body. Fishing won't be our guy time, not like it used to. But I am still the same person on the inside. I haven't changed who I am. I understand if you don't want to, but I'd still like to go fishing with you. Though I might need some new gear, and new clothes."

Staring at his pancakes, your dad doesn't move for a few movements, but then he smiles.

"I'd like that too, Summer."

Breakfast progresses nicely. You and your dad make small talk before you go upstairs and wait for Gwen to wake up so you can pick up a few clothes more fitting for your trip.
