What Happens Next?
Elizabeth, Susan, and Naomi make a plan
Naomi was, understandably, upset Liz and Susan kept her waiting. Liz saw her walking out of her house by the time she and Susan rounded the corner. Even from a distance, she could tell Naomi wasn’t happy.
I suppose we did keep her waiting, Liz thought, oh well, let her stew for a moment, see if I care. Susan glanced at her sideways and whispered, “Remember, we do need her to help us.”
Liz sighed, losing some of her fire, Right, she straightened up as she approached, guess I'll try not to antagonize her too much. While Liz mentally promised herself to behave, she could tell Naomi didn't make the same promise.
Naomi was exasperated by the time they made it to her driveway, “What part of noon sharp did you not understand?” She asked, “or is 12:45 noon sharp for you?”
“Ay, sorry Naomi,” Susan said before Liz could respond, “we wanted to check the place where Rachel got her powers before we came here.”
While it was obvious Susan was trying to calm things down, it had the opposite effect as Naomi looked even more angry, “What? Why didn't you wait to take me with you? We could've found out if there was more to this?”
“We can tell you what we found out now,” Liz said flatly, “although I'm afraid to say we didn't find out much. Did you know your great uncle had a friend who also had the same powers?”
Naomi waved her hand dismissively, “Is that all you found out? I figured that out weeks ago. He died shortly after my great uncle died.” she glared angrily at Liz, “Did you find out anything useful, or did you just waste my time?”
“Your uncle’s friend’s wife is really creepy!” Susan shot in, “Like, really really creepy.”
Naomi pinched the bridge of her nose, “Is that all?”
Liz thought about the spider ring in her pocket. No, I think I’ll keep this to myself for now, Liz thought, in case Naomi decides to double cross us. Liz shrugged, “That’s everything.”
Naomi sighed, rubbing her temples, “Can’t believe you kept me waiting for all that. Come in, don't you dare track in mud or my mom will have your heads.”
Naomi's house was surprisingly clean. Granted, Liz wasn't sure what she expected Naomi's house to look like, but practically spotless wasn't it. The floor was polished wood and there was a faint floral scent in the air.
Naomi’s mom was currently out running errands with some aunts, but Summerlyn, Naomi's older sister, was home to make sure Naomi wasn't up to anything before their mom got home.
They found Summerlyn in the kitchen hunched over her laptop with an open textbook beside her. She looked up as Liz and the others passed by, “Friends of yours?” Summerlyn asked.
Liz couldn’t help but grin as Naomi made a face and replied, “Something like that.”
Sumlerlyn nodded, “They look better than the girls you normally bring here. Keep it down and don't make a mess, mom's already had enough with you.”
“Sure.” Naomi replied, leading the two other girls past Summerlyn and upstairs to Naomi’s room.
Now this was more what Liz expected when she thought of Naomi’s house. Clutter all over the floor, mostly dirty clothes that needed to be washed, but also some attempt at decoration as there were a few posters of some bands and even a few movie posters as well.
Naomi grabbed a notebook from the nightstand by her bed and held it up to both Liz and Susan, “This,” she began, “is everything I've discovered so far about Trevor and his powers.” She tossed the notebook to Liz and Susan and gave them some time to flip through it.
Trevor came across his powers when he found a strange scroll hidden in Naomi’s Great Uncle Ian's belongings and his first possession was Summerlyn. When Trevor uses his powers, his “soul” leaves his body behind and can enter the body of someone else, completely taking them over while he is inside them. When he leaves his new body, the original owner regains control and has no idea what their body did while they were possessed.
Just like Rachel’s powers, Liz realized, flipping through more of the notebook, Neither me or Susan knew what happened to us when Rachel took over.
While the “soul” is gone, the original body enters a deep sleep like state where nothing can rouse it. The body is still alive, and will continue to breathe, but still needs nutrients so the “soul” cannot be gone for too long or else the host body will die. While the body is empty, another “soul” can enter and gain control.
Liz found an entry regarding the spider necklace Naomi gave her. For some reason, the necklace blocks someone from being possessed, and also stops someone who can possess others from leaving their current body. The problem, of course, being that the necklace can easily be taken off.
The notebook also detailed that Naomi had searched through all of her great uncle's belongings and had only found two possession scrolls and the spider necklace.
“While all this is cool and all, how does it help us save Rachel?” Susan asked, “The necklace stops someone from being possessed, but it doesn't **** someone out of the body.”
“I know,” Naomi replied, opening her dresser and pulling out another piece of paper, “that's why I was happy I found this inside the grandfather clock.” She unrolled the piece of paper and Liz and Susan flinched when they recognized the symbols written on there as the same ones on the scroll Rachel found.
More than that though, there were some drawings on the scroll as well. A depiction of an owl, with wide eyes that seemed to stare into Liz's being. In fact, the more she stared at it, the more real that crude drawing became. As if, any moment, the owl would blink and stare at her with eyes made real. She felt the world slowly falling apart around her-
Naomi suddenly rolled the scroll back up, and both Liz and Susan gasped, whatever spell they were under breaking as soon as the owl was away. “Careful,” Naomi chided them, “I only have this one scroll left and if we waste it on you we'll be screwed.”
“What was that?” Susan asked, shivering, “I thought I felt myself leaving my body!”
“That's because it was,” Naomi informed her, “this scroll takes out the soul from someone's body, and it can **** a de-possession and bind that soul for a time.”
“You said you only have one?” Liz asked, “Why can't you just make some more?”
Naomi rolled her eyes, “I tried,” she said, tossing several other pieces of paper at Liz and Naomi. They were more scrolls, or more accurately, replicas of the one Naomi currently had. They were written on normal printer paper and were made by what looked like a normal ball point pen. “I don't know if I wrote something wrong, or if I need special ink, or if this can only be made during the full moon, or if it needs the blood of a virgin,” Naomi began, “but none of these work.”
Liz stared at the various owls depicted on the replica scrolls. Nothing happened, while the owls were the same as the first one, their eyes didn't captivate like the first one. No, these were just plain pieces of paper.
“So you plan on using that on Trevor?” Liz asked, “But how long will it hold him?”
“Long enough to where hopefully we can get out of there,” Naomi replied, “I gave you that necklace because it offers protection, but that's not the only thing that stops possession.”
“What else stops it?” Susan asked.
Naomi gave a wicked grin, “already being possessed. Three souls is too many for one body. I saw it when Trevor and Rachel fought over Victoria, they both couldn't be in there and ended up dragging each other out. So, one of us will be possessed while the other wears that necklace.”
“Excuse me?” Liz asked, grabbing her necklace, “I'm not letting you take over me again!”
“Yeah! I'm not okay with this either!” Susan said.
Naomi pursed her lips, “It's not like you don't have a choice here.” Then she suddenly went limp.
Liz knew what was going to happen and rushed over to Susan, but before she could even take off her necklace, Susan gasped and twitched violently as Naomi **** her way into Susan's body. By the time Liz had her necklace halfway off, Naomi was grinning at her with Susan's mouth.
“Didn't want to possess you again,” Naomi explained, “I'd rather not risk having you contaminate me.”
“Get out of her!” Liz growled.
Naomi raised an eyebrow and gave Liz a crooked smile, an expression that looked wrong on Susan's face. “Or what? You're going to hit your friend's body? I'd love to see that. Or are you going to go for my body? If you do, I can't promise I won't make Susan do some very embarrassing things.”
Liz swallowed, managing to restrain herself. She was going to kill Naomi when this was all over. “Get out of her,” she growled, “I'll agree with the plan, just get out of Susan.”
Naomi rolled her eyes and Susan gasped as Naomi left her and returned to her own body. Susan wrapped her arms around her, “What the hell? Don't just possess me!”
“Get used to it,” Naomi replied, “because I can't let Trevor know I'm there, so it's either going to be you or Elizabeth I possess. And I refuse to be Elizabeth again.”
Susan looked at Naomi darkly, but a quick glance at Liz was all Susan needed to calm down. “Alright,” Susan agreed, “for Rachel’s sake. Let's take Trevor down.” Liz couldn’t agree more, He will pay for what he’s done.
