Chapter 2

Which world do you visit?
San Fransokyo
The air in San Fransokyo tasted electric, a synthetic blend of sea salt, ozone, and exhaust fumes that clung to the back of the throat. Neon lights blinked from the pagodas lining the steep, hilly streets, casting long, artificial shadows through the evening fog. Cable cars drifted on magnetic rails overhead, silent ghosts in a machine city. It was a world of potential, of speed, and of technology, but I wasn't here for the circuits. I had just stepped off the Gummi Ship, leaving the silence of the Ocean Between for the noise of the city, and the transition had left my blood hot. The hum of the ship’s drive was still vibrating in my bones, a restless energy that needed to be grounded. I needed something soft to break the fall.
I walked out of the alleyway, my black coat absorbing the neon glare. I looked up to see a giant, waving cat statue beckoning me from across the street. The Lucky Cat Café. It was the heart of this district, a beacon of warmth in the cool, damp night. I pushed the door open, the bell chiming a cheerful ding-ling that cut through the low murmur of conversation. The smell hit me instantly - sugar, frying dough, and strong coffee. It was domestic. It was safe. It was exactly the kind of place a wolf goes to find sheep.
The place was bustling with students hunched over laptops and service robots navigating the tables, but my eyes went straight to the center of the chaos behind the counter. Aunt Cass was a whirlwind of brown hair and nervous energy, frantically trying to fix a jammed espresso machine while steam hissed aggressively around her. She was mature, flustered, and radiating a ****, frantic need for someone to take control. She wore a simple blouse that strained slightly as she reached up to hit the machine, her curves evident even in her distress.
I walked to the counter, the crowd seeming to part around me, sensing the heavy gravity of my presence. "Excuse me," I said, my voice cutting through the noise of the steamer.
Cass jumped, nearly dropping a mug. She spun around, brushing a stray lock of hair out of her green eyes. "Oh! Sorry! Hi! Welcome to the Lucky Cat, I'm Cass, I'm... uh... wow." She stopped dead. She looked at me, really looked at me, and her brain seemed to short-circuit. I wasn't a college student looking for a caffeine fix. I was a dark, towering figure with eyes that held zero hesitation. "Can I... get you something?" she stammered, her cheeks flushing a deep, sudden pink.
"I'm hungry," I said, leaning on the counter, invading her personal space just enough to make her breath hitch. "Starving."
"We... we have donuts! Mochi donuts! Or a sandwich? I make a mean turkey club when I'm not stressing out, which is never, ha ha!" She was babbling, a classic stress response. I stared at her moving lips, imagining them doing something else entirely to relieve that tension.
"Surprise me," I said smoothly.
While she scrambled to plate a donut, her hands shaking slightly, I turned around to survey the rest of the room. At a large corner table, the "heroes" of this world were gathered, oblivious to the predator in their midst. Hiro Hamada, the boy genius, was typing furiously on a holographic keyboard, while the balloon robot, Baymax, blinked slowly beside him. But they weren't the ones I was interested in.
Standing by the window was Honey Lemon. She was impossibly tall, leggy in a yellow dress and platform heels, mixing chemicals in her purse with a bright, innocent smile. She was the optimist, the sweet one who would probably apologize for being ravaged. And sitting on the table itself was Go Go Tomago. She was short, athletic, and chewing gum with an attitude that screamed for discipline. She wore leather shorts and a jacket, glaring at me suspiciously as she popped a bubble. Snap. The brat. I made a mental note to break that glare later.
"Here!" Cass announced, sliding a plate across the counter and pulling my attention back to the prize at hand. "Mochi donut with matcha glaze. On the house. You look like you've had a long day."
"Longer than you know," I replied, picking up the donut. I took a bite, never breaking eye contact with her. "Sweet. Soft."
Cass swallowed hard, her hand nervously touching her neck. "I... I try."
Suddenly, the lights flickered. The holographic screens at Hiro’s table turned red, and a low hum vibrated through the floorboards. "Whoa," Hiro said, standing up. "Energy spike. Massive."
The front window shattered inward. CRASH. Glass rained down on the customers, screams erupting as the cold night air rushed in. Flowing into the café wasn't wind, but Microbots - tiny, black magnetic nanobots that swarmed together like a fluid, corrupted by a red glow. They were Nano-Shadows, a Heartless variant made of tech and hate. They formed a massive, swirling fist and lunged, not at the heroes, but at the civilian. At Cass.
"Aunt Cass!" Hiro screamed, reaching for his helmet.
Cass froze, staring at the wall of black metal rushing toward her face, paralyzed by terror. She didn't have time to scream. But I didn't need time. I didn't summon my Keyblade; I didn't need steel for trash like this. I stepped in front of her, placing my body between her and the swarm. I raised my hand.
"Stop."
A wave of pure kinetic **** exploded from my palm. The Nano-Heartless hit the invisible wall of my mana and shattered instantly, the magnetic bonds breaking under the pressure. The black swarm scattered across the floor like marbles, lifeless and inert. The café went dead silent. Hiro, Go Go, and Honey Lemon stared, their jaws dropped, trying to process the impossible power they had just witnessed.
I turned to Cass. She was pressed against the espresso machine, breathing hyper-fast, her chest heaving with adrenaline. She looked at the destroyed robots on the floor, then up at me. "You... you stopped them," she whispered, her pupils dilated. "With your hand."
"I don't like interruptions while I'm eating," I said, wiping a crumb from my lip. I looked at the chaos, then back at her. The fear in her eyes was mixing with something else, gratitude, awe, and a primal attraction to the strength that had just saved her life. "But now, the mood is ruined. I think we need to go somewhere quieter, Cass. You look stressed."
Cass looked at her nephew, then back at the dangerous stranger who had just played god with physics. The adrenaline was flooding her system, making her shake. She needed an outlet. She needed to come down. "The... the kitchen," she whispered, her voice trembling. "It's soundproof. In the back."
I smirked, stepping around the counter. "Lead the way."
I looked over my shoulder at the stunned team. Go Go looked furious, Honey Lemon looked intrigued, and Hiro was too confused to move. "Kids," I commanded, my voice brokering no argument. "Clean this up."
I followed the shaking, eager aunt into the back room. As the heavy metal door clicked shut, I turned the lock. We were alone.
