Chapter 13 by alyena alyena

Which path do you take?

Into the wilderness

You're not pleased with your options, but until you know what's wrong with you, you have to make the most practical choice. If you fall ill along the road, your escape will be for naught. Better to seek cover in the woods as quickly as possible. After a short rest, you can even travel by night, if need be.

You trot Aegis away from the abbey, following the Victory Road until you reach the outskirts of the Blauswald. Though your steed has made good time, daylight has given way to darkness and you have no intention of exploring the deep woods by night. Still, the terrain is rugged enough that you should be able to find a safe location not too far from the road. Sure enough, after a few minutes you see only trees behind you. If not for a large moon this evening, you would hardly be able to see even that.

Your path slopes downward sharply, and then cuts back along itself. The trail you're following continues to descend alongside the hill, but you come across a hollow deep enough even for Aegis to get out of the elements. Good timing, too, as your moonlight is disappearing beneath a cloud layer that promises rain before morning. This may not be the best place to make camp, but you also run the risk of being caught in the elements if you decide to press any further.

Make camp here or continue deeper into the woods?
