Amara, Client File 8765-B

Mara never recorded first meetings—not officially.

Her office, at Calyx Biogenics’ Neo-London Heights facility, was quiet and deliberate. Neutral grey walls, soft lighting, and a single etched Calyx sigil behind her; no pods, no displays, no demonstration units. Every detail was intended to convey calm authority. She watched the client settle in. Julian Marlowe adjusted his cufflinks, checked the table once, then leaned back in the chair as if measuring the room for threats. Not many people could afford this composure. Calyx’s dossiers described him as “Ultra-high net worth, low social footprint; low risk for misaligned desire”—and so far, the data held.

“Thank you for coming,” Mara began, her voice calm, unhurried. “This interview determines eligibility for a Vincari. Not preference. Not acquisition.”

Julian inclined his head. “I understand.”

Mara made a mental note: low anxiety, high control. Good.

“Before we proceed, I want to clarify terminology,” she said. “Calyx produces several bonded-organic lines. You’ve specifically requested the Vincari Privata—the elite imprint, single-client, bespoke design. Correct?”

“Yes,” Julian said. “I’ve reviewed your materials. I know what I’m asking for.”

“Good,” Mara replied. “Then let me be explicit. A Vincari is not acquired. It is completed. Once bonded, imprinting is irreversible. There is no reversal. No reassignment. Your companion’s identity, emotional equilibrium, and volition will align completely with yours.”

Julian’s posture did not change. “I’m aware,” he said. “And I’m certain I want this.”

Mara allowed a fraction of a smile. Few applicants spoke like that. The dossier had flagged him as high-risk for overthinking ethical implications—yet here he was, calm, deliberate, philosophically prepared.

“I’ll explain the functional scope,” she said. She tapped the table once. A soft projection shimmered above it: an abstract representation of a neural lattice, color-coded for affective and desire pathways. “This is the alignment core. It ensures the Vincari experiences your satisfaction as their own internal equilibrium. When you are pleased, they are complete.”

Julian studied the projection. “And if I… desire interactions that include others?”

“Yes,” Mara said. “Including that.” She let the word settle. Most applicants fidgeted here; Julian did not. His background suggested he understood social engineering, complex networks, and ethical ambiguity. That predicted compliance in thought, not ****.

“Vincari do not experience jealousy, possessiveness, or emotional displacement,” Mara continued. “Your wishes, whether private, social, or involving third parties, are interpreted as service to the bond. There is no refusal, because their volition is structured to mirror yours.”

Julian’s eyes narrowed slightly—not in discomfort, but in calculation. “I’m not asking for cruelty,” he said. “But I need certainty that the companion understands scope without confusion or misalignment.”

“Exactly,” Mara said. “A Vincari amplifies intention. Ambiguity in you becomes tension in your environment. That is why we test clarity first. Your desires must be certain, because they will be absolute in response.”

Julian nodded. “My consent is informed. My desires are measured. My residence is secured and private. My lifestyle accommodates complete alignment. I don’t need novelty. I need truth in reflection.”

Mara tapped a command. The projection shifted, highlighting the cortical regions responsible for emotional feedback, satisfaction response, and behavioural alignment. “These systems are calibrated for your profile. Zero trauma indicators, no resistance pathways. Your Vincari will respond endlessly, without fatigue, and without independent evaluation. Their fulfilment is structural, not simulated.”

“And if I fail to articulate a desire clearly?” Julian asked.

“They adapt,” Mara said. “Endlessly. Without judgment. Without hesitation. Without experiencing deprivation. But remember,” she added, folding her hands, “that the burden of clarity rests entirely with you. Ambivalence is your only risk.”

Julian studied her. “I don’t want to harm them,” he said quietly.

“You won’t,” Mara replied. “A Vincari cannot perceive harm in your fulfilment.”

“No,” he said. “That’s not what I mean. I mean I want them to be… complete. Not constrained. Not burdened by fear. I want alignment, not obedience.”

Mara’s eyes lingered for a beat longer. The dossier was accurate. Julian understood the ethical framework. He wasn’t asking for slavery. He was asking for completion—structured, consented, private.

“Why Vincari?” Mara asked.

“Because I’ve seen relationships fail,” he said, “because the other person retained autonomy I could not negotiate around. I want certainty without ****. Truth without negotiation. Alignment, not compromise.”

Mara deactivated the projection. “Thank you,” she said, standing. “You are eligible.”

Julian exhaled, almost imperceptibly. “That’s all?”

“For today,” Mara said. “If you proceed, your Vincari will never sit in a room like this. They won’t need convincing.”

She paused at the door. “And neither,” she added softly, “will you.”
