Dirty Uncle Peter

EPISODE 3: Tertius Lydgate recounts part of his history to his friend, Reverend Farebrother. We flashback to Paris where night after night Lydgate attends a play because he is bewitched by an actress. In the play she stabs to **** her husband, played by her real life spouse. One night something appears to go wrong and the fictional **** turns real. Lydgate rushes on stage in a fruitless attempt to save his life. She is taken into custody. He visits her several times to help with her defence, and when she is eventually released she disappears.

Lydgate tracks her to a provincial theatre. He confesses his love and there follows a sex scene in which a decidedly passionate doctor is contrasted with a woman going through the motions. Unfortunately post-coital his passion remains and she is **** to admit the incident in the theatre was no accident and she did it to be free of men. Lydgate tells Farebrother that he is resolved not to be so foolish again.

Fred, in a town where so many are related, enlists his family in persuading his banker uncle, Bulstrode, to write a letter telling his rich uncle that the rumour about him using underhand methods to secure a loan was untrue.
