Chapter 9 by ThePurpleD3viL ThePurpleD3viL

What comes next for Nathan and Vanessa?

An unexpected visitor

The air in the house hung thick. Nathan and Vanessa sat hunched over the laptop, the glow of the screen casting sharp shadows across their faces as they scrolled through cryptic forums and dusty digital tomes. Sienna’s soft humming drifted from the kitchen, a hauntingly normal sound that only made the wrongness of everything sharper. Vanessa’s knuckles whitened around her lemonade glass, her eyes flicking toward the hallway every few seconds, like she expected Selene to materialize from the shadows.

A sudden commotion at the door shattered the tense quiet. A harsh, scraping sound like claws raking against wood? Mixed with frantic, high-pitched barking. Nathan’s head snapped up, his pulse kicking into overdrive. Vanessa was already on her feet, her chair scraping against the floor as she shot him a look that screamed ‘what now?’

“Stay here” Nathan muttered, but Vanessa was already moving, her steps quick and deliberate, like she was ready to wrestle whatever fresh hell was waiting on the other side of the door.

The barking grew louder, more insistent, punctuated by a low, guttural growl that didn’t sound like any dog Nathan had ever heard. He reached the door first, his hand hesitating on the knob for half a second before he yanked it open.

The sight had him bewildered.

There, on the porch, was Sienna’s friend, Lily. The gorgeous redhead he’d stolen glances at whenever she swung by the house, her hourglass curves always a little too distracting for his own good. Except now, she was completely naked, crouched on all fours, her pale skin catching the dim glow of the porch light. A leather collar circled her slender neck, a small silver tag glinting as it dangled. Her fiery curly hair spilled over her shoulders, brushing the ground as she tilted her head up, her green eyes wide and unnervingly vacant, like a dog waiting for a command. Between her teeth, she clutched a folded piece of paper, damp from her spit.

Nathan’s mouth went dry. His eyes betrayed him, flickering over her body, her full breasts swaying slightly as she shifted, her hips curved and inviting, her skin flushed with a faint sheen of sweat. He clenched his jaw, forcing himself to look at her face, but the way she stared up at him, eager and obedient, sent a jolt of arousal through him that he hated himself for feeling.

Vanessa let out a choked gasp beside him. “What the fuck?”

She stepped forward, reaching for the paper in Lily’s mouth, but the redhead’s lips curled back in a sudden, feral growl, her body tensing like she was ready to snap. Vanessa jerked her hand back, eyes wide.

“Lily?” Nathan said, his voice low, cautious. He crouched slightly, meeting her gaze. “Hey, it’s me. You okay?”

Lily’s demeanor shifted in an instant. The growl vanished, replaced by a soft, happy yip. Her eyes lit up, and she wiggled forward on her knees, the paper still clenched between her teeth. She tilted her head, offering it to him, her body practically vibrating with excitement, like a puppy waiting for praise.

Nathan’s stomach twisted, but he reached out, fingers brushing the damp edge of the paper. Lily didn’t resist, she let go immediately, her lips parting as she let out a cheerful bark, her tongue flicking out briefly. She stayed there, crouched and panting, her gaze locked on him with unsettling devotion.

Vanessa’s voice was a harsh whisper. “Nathan, don’t touch it. We don’t know what it is.”

But he was already unfolding the paper, his hands moving on autopilot. The handwriting was elegant, looping, almost mocking in its flourish.

Dearest Nathan,

Found this little pup wandering about on my way out. Thought it only right to return her to her proper owner, Sienna…oh, my mistake, that’s Cassandra now, isn’t it? Such a sweet girl, so eager to please. I’m sure you’ll find a use for her. Say hello to my darling sister Vanessa for me, won’t you? I’ll be keeping an eye on things.

Yours,

Selene

Nathan’s blood ran cold. He glanced at Vanessa, whose face had gone ashen as she read over his shoulder. The letter wasn’t just a taunt, it was a threat. Selene was watching, listening, weaving her web tighter with every move they made.

Lily let out a soft whine, scooting closer to Nathan’s legs, her bare shoulder brushing against his knee. Her eyes were wide, pleading, and for a fleeting moment, he caught himself staring again, her curves, her flushed skin, the way her body seemed to invite him without a word. His cock twitched, and he cursed himself silently, stepping back to put distance between them.

“Selene did this” he said, voice rough. “She’s fucking with us. Again.”

Vanessa’s jaw tightened, her eyes darting between Lily and the letter. “She knows I’m here. She knows we’re digging into her.” Her voice dropped, barely audible. “Nathan, we need to move fast. This is escalating.”

Lily barked again, sharp and playful, oblivious to the weight of their words. She nudged her head against Nathan’s leg, her collar jingling softly and he felt that traitorous heat flare in his gut again. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to focus.

This wasn’t the Lily he knew. Just like Margaret wasn’t Jessica and Sienna wasn’t Cassandra. Selene was rewriting everyone, turning them into perverse caricatures to feed her twisted game. And the worst part? He could feel it, the pull, the temptation to just give in, to let the lines blur and accept the roles she was casting them into.

He wouldn’t. He couldn’t.

But as Lily’s warm skin brushed against him again, her happy little yips echoing in the quiet, he wondered how much longer he could keep fighting.

What should they do with Lily?
