Who finds the app on his phone?
Ashley
Ashley grew up in a rowhouse squeezed between a bakery and a mechanic's garage, the smell of yeast and motor oil braided into the soundtrack of his childhood. At seven he would sit on his grandfather's workbench, watching hands that had once been steady in shipyards and watchmaking nudge loose pins and coax **** tumblers into yielding. The family called him by his initials—A.J.—but the shop signs read ASHLEY & CO. before they ever did. By the time he was a teenager he could pick a stubborn padlock with a hairpin and a patience born of nights hunched under a kitchen table teaching himself geometry from cheap trade manuals. When his grandfather died, the small brass key with the dented head was the only thing left to him, and he kept it in his pocket as if it were an old map. He learned late how a lock can do more than keep things out or in; a lock can hold memories, protect shame, and sometimes, if you know how, quietly set someone free.
Now at twenty-five, Ashley runs a locksmithing service out of a converted storage unit, trading duplicate keys for advice and the occasional midnight favor. He is quick with a joke and slower with thereasons he won't open a safe for cash that smells like trouble—there are lines he won't cross, and he's mapped them carefully. His hands are still the same steady things he learned on his grandfather's bench; he's as likely to fix a wedding ring clasp as he is to re-pin the locks on a battered apartment after a tenant escapes an abusive relationship. In quiet moments he sketches lock designs on napkins, dreaming of a storefront with a brass bell and a pot of coffee on the counter, a place where people leave lighter than they came in. When he isn't at the bench he rides a thrifted bicycle through the city, listening for the small clinks and clicks of a place that needs opening or mending, knowing that what he really does is give people back the things they thought were gone.
