Chapter 20 by RachelDaws RachelDaws

How does Melissa react to the state of her husband?

Not as well as could be hoped.

Melissa’s head bounced back and forth as she sang along in her car.

“So I creep, yeah

Just keep it on the down low

Said nobody is supposed to know

So I creep, yeah

'Cause he doesn't know what I do

And no attention goes to show

Oh, so I creep”

The chorus of the song radiated through her as she turned off the freeway towards her apartment complex. The song was interrupted as a notification ping rang through the inside of the car. Reaching down, she pressed the button so the text to speech would fill her in on the notification.

“You have 2 new emails.” A quizzical look came over Melissa’s face for a brief second before a sly smile replaced it. She had been surprised at the second notification, but had realized just what she had been doing recently that would have kept her from seeing the notification.

“First is from FLR.com. Subject: Delivery scheduled between 5 and 10 pm. Would you like me to read more? ”

The sly grin spread out into a devilish smile as she thought about exactly what was in that package. “No.”

The artificial voice continued on. “Ok. Marked as Read. Next, from FLR.com. Subject: Don’t forget to update your next recording. Your perfect partner awaits. Received one hour ago. Would you like me to read more?”

The second email caught her off guard as she had thought that Darren would need longer with each recording for it to truly lock in. She questioned if it really this simple to turn him into a completely different person. Pulling into the driveway for the apartment complex, Melissa waited for the gate to open. The moment of introspection was all it took for her to start to question her actions.

Was she truly going to go forward with this? Did her husband really deserve this? Was Ben worth this? The questions bounced off each other in her mind as she pulled into the parking space in front of the apartment. Turning the car off she sat in silence as she contemplated everything.

The questions resolved themselves with answers the longer she thought on it. Ben was exactly worth this. He was everything she wanted in a man. He was an attentive and talented lover, a successful and commanding leader, and he ignited a passion in her that hadn’t been there for years. Darren may not deserve this, but he was also clearly drifting and completely lost in his life. She had given him every opportunity to step up, to be a man. If he wasn’t going to make a decision, then she would just have to make one for him.

A new resolve settled into her mind the longer she sat there and stared at the building in front of her. Picking up her phone, she clicked on the second email. A few clicks on the screen had her glancing over the options for the next upgraded message. The choices all seemed more over the top than the one before. She could feel heat building up in her body as she looked over each one, there truly was something about taking over that was igniting something within her.

Scrolling through the options, she realized that she needed to truly think about who she wanted Missy to become. Was she going to be a pathetic cucked maid? That option felt hollow as she pictured it. Sure, having someone to wait on her hand and foot seemed great, but it didn’t fix the problems with money that they were in now. She needed Darren to become the perfect professional woman. Scrolling through, she found a preset that seemed to line up perfectly.

Slutty Secretary

Without reading through the details, she clicked the link and approved the payment. A glance into the mirror showed that her makeup was back in perfect shape and there was no trace of her dalliance. It took effort to wipe the grin from her face and school her countenance back to something more neutral.

Her heels clicked along the sidewalk as she stepped up to the entry way. The jingle of her keys announced her arrival well before the sound of the door opening could. Stepping into the living room, she was greeted with the sounds of repeated thumping as she saw Darren running. Her brow furrowed when she saw him wearing those ratty sweatpants and old worn t-shirt. Her look of surprise only grew when she realized that he wasn’t listening to the earpods any longer and was back to wearing his old clunky running headphones.

Reaching up, she yanked the headphones from his head.

“What is going on Darren? I thought Missy had meetings all afternoon? Why isn't she at work?” She tried her best to keep her tone even but the acid that tainted the words was more obvious than she would have liked.

Her husband turned to her with a stunned look as he stepped off the treadmill. “Honey, I… I mean…” He stammered momentarily as she waited for his response.

How did we get here?
