First Lesson

“Please take a seat.”

David vacated the chair in front of the desk where he'd been sitting. But Samira shied away.

“That's my husband's workplace!” Her attitude made it seem as if it were a sanctuary and touching the office chair was sacrilegious.

“He doesn't need it right now. So you can use it. And he doesn't have to know that you've sat down at his computer. I won't tell him, at any rate,” he added with a wry grin.

She bit her lower lip, still not entirely convinced. On the other hand, she couldn't quite tear herself away from the tempting images.

“Is there more? Fashion, I mean.” Her voice trembled slightly.

“Yes. Much more. I'll be happy to show you how to find everything.”

Finally, she sat down.

“This is the mouse. You can use it to select things on the screen.”

She awkwardly reached for the input device. She moved it tensely across the table, her gaze fixed on the monitor, but couldn't manage to click on anything.

David couldn't stand watching idly for even a minute.

“May I?” Without waiting for permission, he placed his hand on hers.

He immediately realized that it had been a mistake to touch her. Samira gasped and stiffened. He briefly considered withdrawing his hand. But he didn't know how else he could quickly teach her how to use a mouse. He didn't have unlimited time. After all, he had other assignments waiting in his order list that he had to complete.

As gently as he could, he guided the woman's hand and thus the mouse across the desktop. He was pleased to notice that she relaxed a little.

“Now click here with your index finger.”

It worked. Seconds later, a new page opened with the selected dress. Samira laughed. It was a genuine, open sound full of joy.

“Well done,” David praised her. He suppressed the urge to pat her on the shoulder encouragingly. Instead, he let go of her hand and took a step to the side. “Now try it yourself.”

Her hand trembled as she moved the mouse on her own. Her eyes sparkled with interest.
