Chapter 498 by sexyslave sexyslave

How does Izuku take the news?

A bit hesitant, but supportive!

"Wait... You're going to try to be a Hero, even without a Quirk?" Momo asked, surprised. "I don't mean to offend you, but aren't your skills more suited for making Support Gear?" she questioned.

"I mean, yeah, I'm definitely talented in that, but... The thing is, anyone can use Support Gear, unless it's specifically designed to work with a specific Quirk. If I can make some significant tools for myself, like I said... I think going Pro is possible!" Melissa replied brightly. She seemed on cloud nine. Something had clearly happened to reignite her passion for the goal she had claimed to have given up on.

Izuku wasn't immediately sure how to feel. On one hand, he was glad Melissa seemed to come to this conclusion, and it would be hypocritical of him to try to discourage her, given how he had hoped the be a Hero despite everything himself. On the other hand, he wasn't sure how he could have had a hope of becoming a Hero, if he hadn't gotten All Might's attention. If he hadn't been gifted One For All. He'd never given up on the dream, but at the same time, it just seemed unattainable, until then. The hope just seemed foolish from a certain perspective.

But then again... His situation and Melissa's weren't entirely the same. Melissa had more access to resources than he did. And she had a genius inventor sort of mind. She could make her own equipment without relying on some Support Gear maker who was more liable to laugh her out of the room than give her the time of day when her being Quirkless came out. And with the right tools, the right equipment, she could probably overcome a good many Quirks an enemy would use.

So, he only had one more concern. "Are you sure about this? Can you even transfer to a Hero Course?" he finally asked her. "You do still need to receive the required training to get a license to try to go Pro. Is there a Hero school that would take you?"

Melissa paused at that particular question. It was true, her Support skills were easily enough to get her into a Support Course, but a Hero Course would have a lot harder. "...I talked with Uncle Might about it. He suggested that Principal Nezu could add a couple slots to one of the Hero Courses. And he said that he could persuade him to pull some strings. As much as I don't like the idea of relying on connections to get anywhere, I have to acknowledge that, given my lack of a Quirk, I have to use whatever advantages I have. And... If this can be pulled off, then I can be an inspiration to others who lack Quirks, but still have talents that could help them be Heroes. I just have to open that door, right?"

Izuku paused at that. That in itself was a good goal. Proving that one didn't need to be born with a Quirk to be a Hero, and with skills and equipment, it was still possible. She could be her own kind of Symbol in that case. "If you can get into UA through those channels, then I will do everything I can to help you reach your goal. Though... You might hate me for one suggestion I have in mind," he admitted. Getting Itsuka to train her in martial arts to cover additional bases would, after all, be helpful, but as he himself knew, also rather painful.

When Melissa looked at him in confusion, Momo caught on immediately, and looked at Izuku. "...Itsuka?" she inquired.

"...Itsuka," he agreed with a nervous chuckle.

Head back to Japan soon?
