What happened next?
Iris triggered an alarm
For a few anxious moments, nothing happened. Valerie waited as Iris worked, until finally, she heard a slight whirring sound. Starting from the floor, the wall began to rise slowly.
"There you go." Iris said triumphantly. "You should be-"
That's when the sudden shriek of an alarm pierced the silence of the night.
"What the f-" Valerie cursed. The entire room was lit up in a bright red light, and an ear splitting noise was echoing through the building. "What the hell just happened?"
"Fuck. I didn't expect that. Their system security is more sophisticated than I thought." Iris replied apologetically. "You've got about ten minutes before security arrives. Fuck. I'm so sorry."
To make matters, worse, the door stopped opening. Now frozen in place, there was only a small opening, maybe less than a foot off the ground. Valerie tried to see if she could crawl through, reaching out with her hand - only to recoil in pain when her fingers reached the opening.
"Ow." she said, nursing her finger - luckily without any permanent damage. "There's lasers covering the entire door. I can't get out this way."
"Fuck fuck fuck." said Iris. "I'm locked out. I can't do anything here."
Focus, Valerie told herself. There has to be a way out of this. She took a second to think, remembering all that she saw in the room - and a plan appeared in her head. It was risky, but it was the only option she had.
