A locked door

Valerie and Hawk quickly sneaked their way through the building. Being the dead of night, the building was empty except for the occasional patrol, which made it all too easy for them. Their progress through the building was rather abruptly halted by their first real obstacle - a large, metal door with an eye scanner.

"It won't budge." said Hawk, trying his best.

"Iris, gonna need some help here." Valerie called into her earpiece.

"Gimme a couple minutes." came the reply.

The wait allowed Valerie to take stock of her situation. After making sure they were all clear, she allowed herself to relax for just a moment, her eyes finally traveling down towards her body. Something about her suit caught her eye - the length of fabric on the sleeves and legs was shorter than what it had been originally, when Jim had handed the suit to her. While earlier the sleeves and legs were full, now both of them were about three-quarters.

She realized what Jim had meant now - every time the fabric would rip, it would become smaller. While worrying, it was infinitely better than having no suit. And thankfully, Hawk didn't seem to have noticed the difference - likely because of the darkness.

"Alright, I've got something." Iris's voice caused her to snap back to attention. "Their system is pretty secure, so I can't quite fully bypass it. And to top it off, this retinal scanner is trickier than I expected it to be. We're going to need a slight change of plans."

"What do you mean?" asked Valerie.

"This scanner will trigger an alarm unless one of you manually overrides it for the entire time the door is open. Basically - one of you stays outside to suppress the alarm, the other one goes in."

Valerie and Hawk looked at each other, realizing they needed to split up for the time being. They nodded at the same time.

"I'll go in." Valerie volunteered.

"All right." replied Iris. "Hawk, I'm sending you the instructions in a separate channel. Valerie, once you're inside, you'll need to retrieve the objective and rendezvous with Hawk at the extraction point. Copy?"

"Copy." replied Valerie. The door had opened thanks to Iris and Hawk's tinkering, so without a moment to waste, she entered the area behind the door.
