Something is Changing
Javier felt the secret bubbling inside him like a potion about to explode. In the locker room after practice, while his friends recounted their vulgar and exaggerated exploits, he bit his tongue. He was dying to shout it, to rub it in their faces that he, Javier, had seen Lucy, the untouchable Lucy, in her bra. That he had seen her touch herself for him. The power of that story would have guaranteed him legendary status at school for the rest of the year.
But every time he was about to speak, the image returned to his mind: Lucy's nervous yet determined gaze, her ambiguous answer when he asked if it would happen again. If he spoke, the door would close forever. The game would end. And Javier, for the first time in a long time, was willing to be patient. He wanted more. So he locked his trophy in the vault of his memory and changed his strategy.
The change was almost immediate. The next day at school, he approached Marco by the lockers, not with his usual air of superiority, but with a genuinely friendly smile.
"What's up, Marco? Everything good?"
Marco, surprised and suspicious, just nodded. "Yeah, you?"
Just then, Lucy walked down the hall. Javier's eyes lit up, but his greeting was measured, almost gentlemanly.
"Hey, Lucy."
"Hey, Javier," she replied with perfect casualness, giving him a small smile before continuing on her way.
The moment hung in the air. Javier felt like an initiate in a secret club of which Marco was, ironically, the unwitting president. This new kindness was his key, his investment in the future.
For Marco and Lucy, the shockwave of what had happened was felt in a different way. Lucy's story, instead of creating distance, had bound them with the **** of a dangerous secret. Their kisses became deeper, more ****. Their caresses, once shy and restrained, were now bolder, exploring with a new urgency over their clothes. The relationship had improved; it felt more alive, more electric.
That night, on her porch, the moon was a pale fingernail in the dark sky. They were tangled in a feverish kiss. Marco's hands roamed Lucy's back, squeezing her waist, feeling every curve through the thin fabric of her blouse. Lucy could feel his erection against her leg, a hard and demanding presence that confirmed her suspicions: since the incident with Javier, Marco's desire was harder, more constant, more intense than ever.
Encouraged by his passion, she arched her back, offering herself to him. Marco's hand moved up her side, his fingers brushing the edge of her bra through the fabric. He was a millimeter from the goal. Lucy held her breath, waiting, wishing he would finally cross that boundary.
But Marco's hand stopped.
For a second, his fingers trembled there, on the threshold. He wanted, more than anything in the world, to slide his hand under her blouse and feel her skin. He wanted to see what Javier had seen. But he didn't dare. The picture Lucy had painted with her words had become a legendary event in his mind, a fantasy so potent that he feared reality couldn't live up to it. What if his clumsy caress wasn't worthy of what Javier had witnessed? The ghost of Javier's minute in the bathroom was now a competitor he himself had created, and one he didn't feel capable of beating.
Slowly, with a sense of defeat, he withdrew his hand and placed it back on her waist.
The kiss broke, and the fervor of the moment dissolved into a sudden, uncomfortable stillness. Lucy looked at him, confused. She could still feel the proof of his desire pressing against her, but his actions said otherwise. She didn't understand his hesitation.
The experiment, on the surface, was working. Physically, Marco was more aroused than ever. But beneath the surface, the remedy they had invented was creating a new disease, a psychological fracture that neither of them had foreseen. They were more passionate, but a new and invisible barrier had been raised between them.
