Vanessa, a girl who looks down on him

"Really, Vanessa?", Lars thinks. Vanessa was the most annoying girl he met while studying. She came from a rich background in Texas and loved to pick on him when they met at university. This was not a good start.

Lars and Vanessa were students at an international university in Berlin, Germany. The farm was outside on the sparsely populated areas outside the German capital. Lars took a regional train to the a little village in the North East of Berlin, close to the Polish border. When changing to the bus, he couldn't avoid Vanessa. He was surprised to see her with a big suitcase.

They started chatting. Turns out she got a volunteer job as a milk technician. "That's going to be quite interesting. I guess I'll be making cheese, doing science on bacteria etc. The details are quite secret. That's why they need me to stay put for the whole 10 weeks.", Vanessa brags. "Your tasks seems to be much more menial. Well, maybe that helps getting you scrawny body into a resemblance of shape", and laughs at Lars' expense.

They walked a few hundred meters over sandy concrete block roads towards the farm, a huge old GDR-style building. Vanessa's suitcase has problems rolling, and she looks at Lars implying that he should help carry her stuff, but he ignores this. As they finally arrive at the farm, there is barbed wire and a solid gate. After entering, the building looks surprisingly modern. They are greeted by a woman in her 40s. With only a slight German accent, she welcomes them "You must be Lars and Vanessa. Volunteering as farm hand and as dairy expert volunteer, right?" They nod. "Hey, Lars, could you wait here while I bring Vanessa to her new work place? Vanessa, would you please come with me? - You can leave your luggage with the farm hand, he'll take care of it." Vanessa makes point of making Lars walk to her and fetch her luggage. That was how she thought it should be, she'd get a great point on her resume out of this, while Lars only shovels shit around.

Lars gets even more annoyed while he waits. Vanessa really wants to hide the fact that she is actually quite an airhead with her aloofness.
