What's next?
In need of a friend
Caleb saw Heather as he headed for his second period class. No one had really prepared him for how she looked up close. The bruise around her neck was varying shades of yellow, black, and brown. With her arm in a cast, she was struggling to carry her books. Part of him wanted to help her, and another part of him wanted to stay away.
And then it happened. Wanda and Ludmilla, two of the cheerleaders, walked up from behind her. He watched as Ludmilla, a beautiful blond of Russian descent, knocked Heathers books out of her hands and snidely cackled, "Oops."
Then Wanda, a curvy black woman with a thick ass, tripped Heather. She fell forward and tried to arrest her fall with her hands. She cried out when she landed on her cast. Ludmilla hollered a final parting shot at Heather, "Have a nice trip, see you next fall."
Her two former teammates laughed as they continued on their way. They didn't even notice him as they walked by.
He looked around. Some people were laughing, but more simply ignored Heather. No one moved to help. Caleb rushed forward and picked up her books. He didn't even notice Deanna helping her up until he stood. As she brushed Heather off, Deanna harshly barked, "It's not funny when it's you, is it?"
"Why would you help me?" Heather croaked. It seemed she was having a worse day than yesterday.
Deanna laughed in her face, "Cuz I'm not a douchebag, that's why. I didn't help you because I care what happens to you. I did it to prove I'm a better person than you will ever be. Ain't karma a bitch. Oh, damn it, here." She dug into her bag to retrieve some tissues and handed them to Heather. Deanna's words had stung Heather deeply. Far deeper than the bullying she was now subject to.
Deanna finally noticed Caleb. She timidly looked down wondering how much he heard.
He said, "Thanks for helping, Deanna. Would you tell Mrs. Lee I might be a little late to class?"
"Uh, yeah. I'll tell her." Deanna stammered as she rushed to get to class.
Caleb turned to Heather and waved his hand indicating he would walk beside her, "Come on. I'll carry your books. You've got Mr. Edwards next, right?" He only knew that because Heather was in that class with Kathy.
As they walked he could feel the stares upon him. He was helping the most hated woman in school. He had already heard one rumor that she made up the **** story and did all the damage to herself because Brock dumped her. He had no doubt new rumors would be flying within minutes. He really didn't care.
Heather's voice cracked when she finally asked, "Why are you being nice to me?"
"I don't know. Maybe it's to teach you a lesson. Your friends, the popular kids, couldn't wait to stick a knife in your back at the first opportunity. My friends, the people you called the Loser Crew, we would do anything for each other. Christine, I think you call her the Neanderthal, she would wrestle a bear to keep her friends safe. I know she has my back, no matter what. Yeah, she's tough and muscular, but there is a girly girl hiding behind those muscles, but only her closest friends get to see it. And Kathy, the Titty Monster, is the most kind and loving person I know. I ought to thank you for making her that way. If you hadn't treated her the way you did, she might not have become the perfect girlfriend she is today."
Caleb saw Heather wince at his words. He didn't say them to be mean to her though. She's a bully, but she is also a victim. What happened to her is terrible, being beaten is bad enough, but being **** is way worse. And yet here I am using this magic watch to have sex with dozens of women that wouldn't look at me twice without it. I used the watch to make them all want it, but still, does that make me a bad guy? Maybe it does, but I can still try to make people happy. And maybe I can make Heather a better person along the way.
He sighed and shook himself out of his thoughts so he could continue talking, “All of the Denizens of the Pit are real friends. The reasons why your friends made fun of them are just stupid. Angie is an otaku obsessed with anime and comic books. She loves doing anything silly if it will make her friends laugh, even if she looks ridiculous. Zack, the Fart Boy, does not smell like rotten eggs. But he will spend hours talking about video games and anime. He wants to design video games and is gonna go to college for that. Gabbie loves to bake and dress like a fifties style housewife. Michelle loves taking pictures of her cats in silly outfits. Carl loves to play chess. Martin is working on the world record for longest burp. Randy collects bugs. I could go on all day but my point is, all of the Denizens have a passion, something they love. Something that your 'friends' make fun of them for."
"Do you love anything other than yourself? Do any of the popular kids? Honestly, I think you guys are bullies because you're bored. If you only love yourself, you can't find any joy in life. Your friends are mean to others because it's the only way they can feel anything."
"Chris and Kathy will spend hours in a garden just looking at flowers. Kathy paints and Chris likes taking apart car engines with her dad and brothers. Heather, you're fucking miserable because you don't love anything. Well, you're part of the Loser Crew now. It's time to find something to love other than yourself. Go find something that is stupid, or silly, that you wouldn't be caught dead doing in front of your former friends. Go have fun without hurting someone doing it. I'll bet you a dollar you'll find something you love."
They arrived at Mr. Edwards class as he finished speaking. Not for the first time, he didn't notice the seconds hand on his watch begin to spin faster as he talked.
Kathy saw him enter the doorway carrying Heather's book and ran over to him. He loved the sight of her beautiful face and gorgeous body as she ran to him, her tits bouncing around in her dress. He handed Heather her books before Kathy crashed into him. She pulled his head down and kissed him like she was about to tear his clothes off and fuck him in the doorway to the classroom.
She pulled away when she noticed Heather. Looking back at Caleb, she said, "I need you to tell Zack not to pick anyone till I talk to him. Come straight to the pit at lunch. No stopping to stretch or breed anyone either."
She grabbed Heather's hand and pulled, "Come on, I saved you a seat."
When Caleb finally got to class the bell had already rung. Mrs. Lee waited for him to take a seat, but he stood in front of Deanna instead. He looked down and scolded her, "I get that you don't like Heather, and I understand why. Her and her friends bullied a lot of people when she was one of the popular kids. But what you said was mean. Don't do to her what she did to you."
She looked up at him like he had just kicked her. Her voice quaked as she stammered, "I'm sorry Caleb. I..."
He interrupted before she could go on, "Look, I know she's an easy target right now, and she certainly deserved to be taken down a peg. But all of her fair weather friends have abandoned her. There is even some idiotic rumor going around that she made up the whole story about being ****. That's just bullshit. I know for a fact her story is true. The head of my security detail has seen the police reports, and all the evidence. Brock is a fucking monster, and anyone that thinks otherwise is a moron. No matter how big of a bitch she was, nothing justifies what Brock did to her."
He had spoke at a normal level and every student in class heard him. He looked around the room and spotted Megan and another cheerleader named Alice. Megan looked contrite and wouldn't meet his gaze. He had the sudden thought that there may actually be a person worthy of his buddy Zack in there after all.
Deanna sobbed, "I swear, I never thought she was lying."
He looked back at Deanna and his voice softened as he said, "I know that. You're not stupid. But if you really do want to be in my harem, you can't ever kick a person when they are down. If someone is bullying you or someone you love, you have every right to stand up to them. But Heather is going through hell right now, and people should either help her through it, or leave her the hell alone."
Mrs. Lee spoke up and said, "That was well said Caleb, but if you don't mind, I'd like to start class now."
Deanna wanted to cry. After her disastrous date with Kyle, she had high hopes of becoming one of Caleb's concubines. He had held her when he found out how badly her date had gone. Now he was upset with her. It was then that she realized that had they been alone, and not a crowded movie theater, Kyle could have done to her what Brock did to Heather. That thought only made her feel worse.

The Normality Dial
Changing reality with a word
This story is based off a branch of Murakami's Normality found here. https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.174576 In this story, our hero Caleb Anders, finds a watch that allows him to change reality, with certain rules based on the time the watch is set at. A special thanks to BiBiComte and CrossC for allowing me to reprint their own chapters here. I have credited them for each of their chapters at the start of those chapters. I may have made a few minor changes and grammatical corrections, though I am by no means perfect myself.
