Chapter 15

Can they find the dragon?
Easily
"He went North" the Red Wizard said as the ranger had just dismounted to check for clues. This clearly baffled her, so she explained "the fey blood that runs in my veins is dryad, not elf. The remaining trees are terrified the dragon will return and rip them apart."
Their fear seemed well justified, the carnage around them was brutal. The farm was probably fairly prosperous once, but now it was mostly a patch of wasteland, corrupted by the dragon's caustic breath. The group continued their path and saw signs of other destroyed farmsteads, it seemed they didn't meet the first victim, but only the first survivor.
They eventually reached a formation of jagged rocks large enough to hold cave entrances, and with pinpoint certainty Daphne pointed which the Dragon was using to lair. And more, he hadn't left yet that morning, so they could prepare an ambush. Daphne and Ariadne waived their spells as quickly and silently as they could, but not quietly enough that it didn't stir the Dragon.
The creature's long head snaked out of the cave, its glistering scales were still grimly scarred in several places. It began to crane its neck around, looking for his would be hunters when he spotted Daphne. She felt dragon fear hit her, but she would be damned if she would let this overgrown lizard intimidate her. As he suck in to breath she quickly finished her incantation, a fan and a feather in her hands, and as that toxic cloud of acid gas came towards her it hit the wind wall she had just conjured into existence. "Is this the best you can do?" she mocked the dragon.
More of it emerged from the cave, enough to unfurl his majestic winds. Her hands picked a red handkerchief and she made another spell, summoning a swarm of spiders over the huge dragon. It was laughable to think they could really hurt the dragon, but it infuriated the creature to see such pathetic vermin pilling up on his back, trying to get through his almost impenetrable armor. Without further though it lunged at the mocking Red Wizard.
On his first step he started to receive a volley of arrows on his left flank, all thanks to a single archer. Most of the tiny slivers of wood didn't sink past his scales, but a couple did. When it turned its head Ariadne emerged from the rocks brandishing her glaive, her weapon was coated with a sickly green aura, and it slashed deep. Siheow charged in from the other side, his own spear also shinning with enchantment, his roar almost as loud as the dragon itself's.
4 adventurers weren't such bad odds, the dragon certainly faced worse, so rather than take wing it seized the armored foe in front of it. Ariadne grunted in pain, but called for her goddess for succor. When she touched the creature several of its scales visibly rotted and began to fall, but it didn't let go of its prisoner. It continued to trade blows with the others.
The tail went swinging in Chathi's direction, so she had only time for a single shot before it crashed next to her. But it was the one shot she needed, the arrow found the dragon's left eye, it exploded like a ripe melon. Daphne directed her next spell on Siheow, and successfully made the lion man increase in size. It wasn't enough to match the Dragon's height, but it went a long way towards diminishing the gap.
The Dragon shrieked in pain when the lion man raked it with its front claws, and only a panicked retreat saved him from being impaled by the spear. The wemic pranced after his prey. The dragon spewed forth more of its poison, but it didnt have any effect on the wemic, well protected as it was by Daphne's enchantments. His counterattack was far more effective, his spear slashed open another wound on the dragon's neck. The archer moved her target to its left wing again.
"Assttack yoursss friendsss" the slithering tongue addressed the lion man in front of it, recognizing him as the most immediate threat. But just as it was evoking its innate ability so was Daphne working its counterspell, and once more its efforts proved futile.
It decided enough was enough, and turned to flee. Or meant to. Ariadne had finally succeeded in working her spell, and even more amazingly affecting the wyrm despite its will and resilience. It felt only a numbness spreading through his body as the priest's curse took hold. It kept still as more blows robbed him of his life.
"The size of this thing... we can make a fortune with its carcass alone." Chathi was very pleased with the outcome, and didn't hide it. "I can send a bird messenger to my brother, and then he sends our part to us in our enclave, is that okay?" Without any better plans on how to profit with it, Daphne agreed.
