Chapter 6 by fantaghiro
What's next?
time passes
Everything was a blur. You had no sense of time or place. You heard sounds of the hospital around you as you floated in and out of consciousness. Finally you opened your eyes to see a nurse checking your vitals. You mumbled "Wh...", getting her attention.
Her eyes widened. "Mr. Connors? Tim? Can you understand me?"
Your throat and mouth were dry, feeling like they were full of cotton. She saw your difficulty. "Just nod if you can't answer," she added.
You responded with a weak nod.
"Good!" she said. "Your vitals are great, we've just been waiting for you to regain consciousness. Let me go get the doctor."
"W...wait..." you managed to whisper.
The nurse paused. "Do you think you can drink?" she asked.
You nodded.
She filled a small cup of water, added a straw, and held it to your mouth. "Just sip," she ordered.
You found you had to drink very slowly to avoid choking, but soon you had drained the cup.
"Better?" she asked.
"Yes, thanks..." you managed to respond, your voice still raspy.
"Ok, let me get the doctor now," she added as she walked to the door.
"Wait!" you rasped. "How long?"
The nurse looked back and answered ....
Hours? Days? Weeks?

The Ultimate Transplant
Someone you know is given a new body & life
PLEASE ADD CHAPTERS! A close friend or family member is horribly injured in an accident. As they lay dying in the emergency room, another patient dies of a brain aneurysm. Both of them are organ donors, so a surgeon decides it's the perfect opportunity for him to try an experimental surgery. He transplants the victim's higher brain (the cerebellum) to the donor's body in an attempt to 'save' a life. Amazingly it works. But the surgery was not approved so the hospital convinces the families to keep quiet, arguing that revealing this operation to the public would bring never-ending media attention to all involved. That means that the patient will have to publicly assume the identity of the donor. What will this mean to your friends and family? Who else will you tell? Although you will spend a lot of time and effort giving support, how will all this alter your relationship to the patient? And how will he or she adapt to a complete change of body and identity? Many transformation stories focus on the change or victim, so I thought it would be interesting to instead have the POV be someone who sees the change from the outside. Writers feel free to explore a change in age, gender, class or ethnicity - and the repercussions that change would have on the main character (and others).
