The curse adapted!

"What gives? I thought you said you gave me control of my curse!" Ranma hissed to Akane as they walked away from Genma, and causing Akane to blink in confusion.

"I thought you turned into a girl on purpose so your father wouldn't question you not turning?" she asked him in some confusion.

"No! I mean, I thought of doing just that, but I was already in girl form when it occured to me! It happened automatically like it always used to!" Ranma whispered frantically.

"...huh, that's odd," Akane frowned. "Usually, genie magic is powerful enough to supercede most other magics without any trouble, so that shouldn't happen..."

"Damn it, I wish you knew what happened with my gender bending curse!" Ranma replied, determined to get to the bottom of this.

Akane nodded and snapped her fingers. She then paused, before remarking, "...oh... Well, that's an impressive curse... It adapted to my magic..."

"What do you mean? The curse is stronger than your genie powers?" Ranma asked quietly, crossing his arms with a huff.

"No, Master, I mean it found a way around my own power without overpowering it," Akane explained. "No way in hell it could outright overpower my magic, but sometimes, magics can interact in unpredictable ways. It's rare, because genie magic is usually able to account for it, but this is clearly one of the exceptions."

"...so, what you're saying is that the curse basically found some sort of loophole it could work in?" Ranma inquired for clarification.

"Huh, so there are a couple of brain cells rattling around in there!" Akane joked at how he had gotten the concept, making him splutter indignantly. "But yes. Basically, overnight, some aspects of the curse seeped into your subconscious while we slept, and basically makes it so you automatically turn yourself into a girl unconsciously, basically exploiting your ability to swap physical gender at will." She shrugged a bit sheepishly. "Some curses have a sort of pseudo sentience, and they don't "like" being tampered with, but it's always a surprise when they can do anything about it if a genie is the one doing the tampering. Sorry for not seeing this coming, Master. You should still be able to swap back to male without needing hot water though, and no one's around..."

Ranma glanced around to make sure no one was watching, before shifting back into male form, sighing in relief as that worked. "...right, so... Suggestions? I don't mind having the ability to swap to girl form after that first wish, but I don't want it happening accidentally."
