Robert Pants, or Rob as he liked to be called, was nervous. In front of him sat the entire graduating class of his college, plus various faculty, family members, and friends. In total, there must’ve been 1000 people in attendance, maybe more.
As he sat near the podium in a cheap folding chair that school had provided for the lucky students who reviewed academic honours, Rob couldn’t believe that he’d been selected valedictorian. After all, he’d been a sold C+ student for most of his degree before he’d started getting an A.I. to write all of his papers for him. Somehow, none of his teachers ever caught onto the fact that Rob’s writing abilities went from that of a first-grade book report to actually using the proper APA format.
Not only had his grades turned around, but the bot had been so good that it had gotten him to the top of the academic ladder! Now, as he prepared to walk up the podium and give a heartfelt speech that he’d spent a whole five minutes letting his A.I. write, Rob couldn’t help but feel the eyes of his classmate, Hannah, burning into him.
Hannah was one of the smartest people in her graduating class. She’d been narrowly beaten by Rob for the spot of valedictorian and while she normally wouldn’t let something petty like that irritate her, she knew for a fact that the cheater hadn’t earned the position. She’d studied A.I. models extensively throughout her time in school and knew how to recognize when they were used in writing. One look at Rob’s thesis and she knew that he hadn’t written a single word of it.
Now she had to watch as Rob sauntered over to the podium to deliver a speech that she could only guess was generated the night before. Hannah knew that she couldn’t just let him get away with it, but what could she do?
