Chapter 1

The day had been as mundane as any other when the mailman arrived at my doorstep. The sun was a lazy yellow smudge in the sky, casting a heat that felt more like a blanket than actual sunlight. The mailman, Mr. Jenkins, greeted me with his usual half-hearted smile, which was more of a grimace from the effort of carrying his heavy sack through the neighborhood. He handed me a small, unassuming box. "Looks like something special for you," he said, wiping the sweat from his brow before he continued his journey.
I took the box inside and placed it on the kitchen counter, next to a stack of unopened bills and junk mail. The sender's address was curiously missing, leaving only a series of mysterious symbols in its place. The box itself was made of a material that felt like a cross between velvet and metal. It was a deep, rich blue color, and it was surprisingly light for its size. Intrigued, I cautiously lifted the lid. Nestled within the box was a sleek, blue remote control with a button called 'menu', 'settings', 'OK', and the four directions button. The only indication of its purpose was a tiny label that read, "Insert Prime."
There was also a note in the box. 'Point at the TV and enjoy'.
I shrugged. What's the worst thing that could happen?
The TV flimmered, as I turned it on.
