Nick meets Olivia [Nick's POV]
"Um, were we expecting guests?"
*woof**woof* (no in dog language)
*woof**woof*
I try not sound panicked as I hear the bell ring again. I find an empty room - and motion for the two to go in there. "And you better behave! I'm gonna check on the door." I waited for them to get in before closing the door and making my way to the entrance. I opt to ignore the safety of checking through the peep-hole who it is and instead just open the door.
"Hello?" I ask as I pry the doors open.
Who stands before me is a tall girl - about 170cm of height - with shoulder length brown hair. She has glasses on her cute nose, and a wholesome face. She's wearing a t-shirt and and knee-length jeans skirt, together with flat sandals. She had a slender figure, and her ensemble - together with her cheerful face just screams "girl next door".
"Umm. Hello" she says as she looks at me. "Sorry. I saw the car, and I figured you guys arrived, and I just wanted to welcome you to the neighbourhood! My parents would like to invite yours for the welcoming barbecue."
I was kinda shocked by that welcome. I guess it's different here, in my flat I never ever seen someone welcome new neighbours like that - or in any other way for that matter. The girl was cute and I immediately felt embarrassed about being in the same t-shirt and jeans from yesterday, even though that stuff doesn't usually bother me. I tried to save face and give her a genuine smile. "Oh, thanks. I'll have to tell them about that. Uh, when exactly is this barbecue?"
I silently prayed it wasn't during my test period with my parents. I didn't know if they would give me a break in order to have a chance with this girl I instantly became infatuated with.
"It's tomorrow afternoon. Are your parents home? I would like to invite them myself! I really like your house, it was renovated right? You are the new owners?" She spewed the barrage of questions with the speed of a machine gun. Answers to some of the question I wasn't even sure myself. I thought we rented?
She kept talking and talking, and I felt increasingly stupid keeping her outside while I was standing on the threshold with a half closed door.
"Oh, umm. Sorry where are my manners." I move out of the doorway for her to come in. "Oh, but since we're now neighbours I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Nick, nice to meet you." I held a hand out for her.
"Olivia! Nice to meet you!" she said and shook my hand.
"Unfortunately my parents are out at the moment. They went on a walk together, you know. Romantic couple stuff." I definitely needed to practice my social skills - I think to myself.
"Awww". She cooed. "It's so sweet that your parents still do that! Mine never take walks together any-more. I mean they hike, but not like that! Do you think they will be gone for long? Can I stay until they get back?" She continues probing while moving into the house and looking around.
Well. The thing about Olivia is - she looks all innocent - and she feels innocent, and she thinks she is innocent. But if you ask anyone else (including her parents), they will say she's just like tornado.
