Ember had always yearned to be treated like a baby, or at least most of her life. It's hard to remember early childhood sometimes. Point is, she was determined to make it as good for herself as possible, and when you're determined(and already somewhat used to finding things online), it opens up a lot of avenues for her.

In her researching, Ember found she was able to know some of what to expect from a prospective "family" before ever making any commitment to anything, and how to make herself more appealing to them. It wasn't long before her work would finally pay off, she could take a break from having to use her brain so much, and her family would be provided for.
