Chapter 14

Necromancer

I was tracking a pack of werewolves throughout a forest. We had been in Greece for almost a month. In the last month, I had heard rumours of a pack of werewolves carrying the moonstone with them, hence why I was currently tracking them. I had recently found a small number of them, unfortunately, I had not realised it was the night of a full moon, leading to quite a fight. Werewolves are a natural enemy of vampires, and their bite can even kill non-origins as it is extremely venomous to them. Throughout that night, I had been bitten numerous times, leading to an excruciating couple of hours.

Luckily, as Werewolf venom was rooted in magic, I could syphon it out of myself. Now I was following their trail throughout the woods but had not seen a single sign of them in several hours. They must have moved on, from what I understood of werewolves, most packs seemed nomadic, choosing to stay away from civilisation as much as possible.

Just as I were about to head back, call it a day, I heard a twig snapping in the distance, heading towards the sound, I was surprised to find not a werewolf or even a human, but a walking corpse. The corpse looked half rotted with skin falling off and bone exposed, it was shambling towards me, I watched as it came closer slowly advancing towards me. Suddenly, as it was about fifty feet from me, it broke into a mad sprint heading right towards me. With no concern, I simply shot my hand out, taking its head off its shoulders in a single punch.

I crouched down examining the body, a deep wound had opened its chest, several internal organs were missing, necromancy had to be, and I only knew of one person who could bring the dead back to life here. Ted, or as he liked to call himself, the great necromancer, weighing up my pros and cons, I decided I could venture further into the forest in the hopes of finding him.

Walking further through the forest, I started encountering more zombies, even taking out my sword to dispatch of them, although it was truly unnecessary as they were easy to kill. Each of the zombies seemed to have been long dead; perhaps there was a graveyard not too far away from here, and there were certainly enough of them. I continued forward hacking and slashing each zombie that came close to me. Honestly, it was getting boring, the equivalent of swatting flies.

After close to an hour of walking, I arrived at a clearing with close to a hundred of these walking corpses. As I started to cut through them, I noticed one unmoving in the centre. He was different from the rest, his face, although rotten, showed emotion, and his eyes showed intelligence, whereas the others were just blank. He seemed to study me for a second, eyeing me up probably deciding if I was worth fighting. "You dare to stand against the almighty necromancer", he started. I laughed, which sent him off again "How dare you laugh at the almighty necromancer, the cursed king of the underworld, bow before me and I may spare your worthless life". By now, none of his zombies were still standing, all of them having been torn to pieces by me. "I am impressed, raising the dead is not the easiest, although it is unrefined, messy even" The necromancer on the edge of a smile at the first bit, seemed to grow angry with the last bit. "How dare you insult me? I am the almighty necromancer, and I shall kill you for your insolence," he spat out.

Great, I thought I always hated him in Legacies, now I could finally take that annoyance out on him. I closed the distance, striking him, with a crack. He flew into a tree, standing back, up I could see the hate in his eyes grow all the more. He opened his mouth to speak again, before he got a word out, I slashed my blade across his chest, igniting him in flame. I knew that I could not kill him, that just made it all the more fun to fight him, grabbing his head, I twisted sharply, snapping his neck. As he rose to his feet, I delivered a kick to the centre of his chest, knocking him back against the tree he was pinned to before, dashing to him, I released my claws to begin slashing him across his body. Before I could continue, his voice broke through the quiet forest "Wait, you don't seem like an ordinary vampire, are you?" I smiled before wrapping my hand around his throat. "No, I am not, I am the King of heretics," I respond, a smile still on my face. "Another king, then I shall give you one last chance out of respect, how before me, and I shall let you keep your life", he demanded. I answered him by delivering a swift punch to his face, cracking it and sending blood splattering from his face. Before I could continue, I saw his eyes widen, but not at me, he was looking behind me, turning around, his hand still grasping his neck. I looked behind me. My eyes widened just like his walking slowly toward us was a giant, almost eight feet tall monster made of mud, Malivore, it had to be.

The giant mud golem could not catch me, I knew that. There were only three supernaturals it could not hunt: witches, werewolves and vampires. Thinking on that, I quickly realised that he must be after the necromancer and not me. Fine, I would end this fight quicker than I wanted. I turned my hand still on his throat, with a single throw, he went straight at Malivore. Malivore grabbed the kicking and screaming necromancer and consumed him. As soon as he was gon, Malivore turned and left in another direction. We would meet again. I knew that perhaps I could learn necromancy from him, but until the Malivore would be his keeper.

I started to burn the bodies last thing I wanted was any trace of the supernatural sitting out in the open for anyone to find. That would just be asking for hunters to come calling, or perhaps other supernaturals coming to cause us problems. In total, there were over one hundred and fifty bodies, each in varying states of decay, but all had been dead for some time. I looked over them all quickly, checking for causes of **** using my prior life's experience in the medical field, I was just making sure that they died of natural causes.

After finishing up, I started the long walk back to the house. The country was beautiful, and I enjoyed every minute of my time out here, but I knew that if I was gone too long, the others would worry, so I left. Although this trip had not been successful in the ways I hoped it would, it allowed me to confirm that Malivore still existed. Unfortunately, I had no idea who made him. In the show, Aurora had a hand in his creation, but here, she did not. I would have to find out who took her place in creating it. It had also confirmed that the ring I had created just in case Malivore did exist worked. In the show, anything consumed by Malivore would be erased from all memories of those who knew of it. My ring allowed me to keep those memories, which would hopefully become useful. Malivore did worry me, though, as I knew I could not defeat it alone; I would need the blood of a tribrid. Hopefully, when the day comes to pass that I have to fight Malivore, Hope will not only be alive but on my side as well. The other major concern I had was that if Malivore exists, then there is a good chance that the gods still exist in this world, meaning I needed to get extremely powerful as soon as possible.
