Get Chores

Jeff doesn't leave after that day. And he doesn't leave the next day either.

The next morning, he greets you the same way, with a smile and a bowl of cereal.

"Hey, tiger. Your mom said her business trip got extended. Something about dealing with chip shortages. I don't know, but it looks like she'll be away at least another month. I told her I'd look after you till then, so I'm just gonna stay here till then. It'll be fun, we can bond!"

You make a face and grunt. He was so chipper but none of that sounded like good news to you. So much for privacy and a whole month of being blissfully alone. Now it was two months of awkwardness.

Oh well, at least you were safe inside your room.

"Oh, one other thing, sport. Think you could handle breakfast from now on? And maybe help around the house with cleaning and stuff? Promised your mom I'd take care of the place and look after you, so... if you wouldn't mind, that would be great."

"Oh, uh... I usually don't wake up till like fifteen minutes before school. Can't you make your own breakfast?" you ask. You tended to stay up late gaming on the weekend and spend the rest of the week sleeping in as much as possible.

Jeff shakes his head. "I've got work pretty early. It's from home most days, but cereal is usually the best I can do. And since you've got free time, I figured it'd be good training for you."

You raise an eyebrow. "Training?"

He nods confidently. "Mhm... Like getting you ready for real life after graduating. You'll have to fend for yourself eventually. Might as well learn now."

"Oh... Uh, right. Sure."

Great. One more thing to worry about. So much for sleeping in.
